WACO, Texas - Sophomore midfielder Ryan Lee recorded her first collegiate multi-goal game as the Baylor soccer team came from behind to beat Oklahoma Tuesday night, 3-1. Oklahoma (9-3, 3-2 Big 12) had its three-game winning streak snapped, while the Bears (6-6, 2-4) won their second straight contest.
The Sooners took a 1-0 lead 10 minutes into the game as sophomore forward Logan Womack scored her team-leading 11th goal of the season. When the Baylor defense could not control a ball near the net, junior forward Krissy Dawson corralled it and passed to Womack for the score.
That lead held up through halftime. At the half, Baylor head coach Nick Cowell made several line-up changes in an attempt to give the team more options on offense. Foremost among the changes was a shift for junior Tamura Crawley from defender to forward, with sophomore Casey Cleveland coming in to fill Crawley's spot on defense.
The moves worked, as Crawley's combination of speed and ball-handling drew extra attention from the Oklahoma defense and forced the Sooners into a defensive stance. Just over 17 minutes into the second half, Lee headed in a pass from junior Whitney Barrett to tie the score at 1-1.
The tie held until the 85:16 mark, when Crawley redirected a shot from freshman Janae Potter into the goal. The goal was Crawley's first of the year (second of her career) and put the Bears up 2-1.
Less than two minutes later, Lee struck again. After settling a loose ball, Lee was able to dribble in two steps and fire the ball past OU keeper Jana Cunningham for the Bears' final score. Cunningham, who had relieved starter Catherine Wade early in the second half, was moving to her left and slipped while trying to reverse her direction.
Baylor goalkeeper Stephanie Dempsey recorded her second straight win after she replaced starting goalie Emily Koch at the half. Koch continues to struggle with a severe back injury and is considered day-to-day.
Lee became the third Baylor player to score multiple goals in one game this season, April Robertson scored twice against Loyola Marymount Sept. 7, and Ginny Rosario-Tull recorded a pair of goals Oct. 14 against Oklahoma State.
Tuesday's game was originally scheduled for Friday, Oct. 12. That game was delayed and then cancelled early in the second half due to severe weather in the area. The Bears finish off their four-game homestand this weekend, hosting Colorado at 7 p.m. Friday and Texas Tech at 1 p.m. Sunday.
