MOBILE, Ala. - Two days after an upset win over No. 22 Alabama, the 36th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team was unable to duplicate the feat and lost 5-2 to ninth-ranked South Alabama on Monday.
The Jaguars (24-2) won their 15th straight match to end their regular season, while the Bears (9-9. 5-1 Big 12) lost for the third time in their last four matches.
Baylor was swept in doubles, then lost four of six singles matches en route to the defeat. The Bears earned their two points at No. 5 singles, where Zoltan Papp won his second in a row after a six-match losing streak, and at No. 6 singles, where Cory Ross won his third straight.
Eight of Baylor's nine losses this season have come to top-20 teams, including four defeats at the hands of teams ranked among the top-10 in the nation. Baylor is 8-1 this year against teams outside the top 20.
The Bears now return to Waco for the team's final home match of the regular season. Baylor hosts Texas A&M Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Streich Tennis Courts before heading to Austin Saturday for the final match of the regular season.
