#31 Baylor (9-10, 5-2) at #19 Texas (15-3, 6-1)
Saturday, April 21, 2001, 1 p.m., Austin, Texas
The No. 31 Baylor men's tennis team will wrap up the Big 12 Conference regular season Saturday at 1 p.m. in Austin against No. 19 Texas. The Bears come into the match in third place in the Big 12, one game behind Texas.
Texas had won nine straight matches before being swept by Texas A&M 7-0 April 14. UT's only other losses this season came at Pepperdine and vs. SMU, both were 4-3 scores.
The Longhorns are led this season by 29th-ranked sophomore Jean Simon and 90th-ranked Craig Edmondson in singles and by the 23rd-ranked team of Jorge Haro and Jose Zarhi in doubles.
"If we play the way we have lately, this is going to be a very competitive match," Baylor head coach Matt Knoll said. "These are two very similar teams and should provide for an interesting end to the conference season."
Last season, Baylor beat Texas 5-2 in Waco. The Bears are 2-4 against the Longhorns under Knoll, but have never beaten Texas in Austin.
A Little Home Cooking Goes A Long Way
Since moving to the Streich Courts for good prior to the 1996-1997 season, the Bears are 41-15 at home.
The Bears saw a 22-match home win streak come to an end with a 7-0 loss to then-No. 3 Duke (3/15). Before that, the Bears' last loss at home came April 17, 1998, when the Bears lost to Texas A&M in the final match of the regular season.

Since entering the top 25 in Dec. 1998, Baylor is 18-17 against other top-25 teams. Nine of the Bears' 10 losses this season have come against top-20 teams, five of those nine came to top-10 squads. Baylor has only lost twice to a team not ranked among the top 20 since the start of the 1999 season.
The Bears are 28-2 against unranked teams under head coach Matt Knoll.
