DALLAS, Texas - Baylor senior Debbie Thornhill was among the recipients today as the Big 12 Conference announced its 2002 cross country award winners.
All-Big 12 honorees are those who take the top nine places at the conference meet. Thornhill, a native of Wichita Falls, Texas, recorded a time of 20:54.44 on the 6,000-meter course to finish fourth at the Big 12 Championships on Saturday, Nov. 2, to earn All-Big 12 honors.
Saturday's conference meet was the first Big 12 Championship cross country competition for Thornhill, who transferred to Baylor from North Texas prior to the 2002 track season. She was the top finisher among the newcomers to the Big 12, allowing her to earn Newcomer of the Year accolades.
Thornhill leads the Baylor women back into action on Saturday, Nov. 16 as the Bears host the NCAA South Central Regional at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. The women's 6,000-meter race is slated to begin at 9 a.m., followed by the men's 10,000-meter run at 10 a.m.
