Final Stats

BOERNE, Texas - Texas Tech shot a six-over-par 304 Friday to clinch a one-stroke victory over host Baylor and Tulane with a two-round 613 at the Baylor-Tapatio Springs Shootout 2002 in Boerne, Texas.

Texas Tech was led by Stephanie Dukes, who shot a one-over-par 73 Friday and finished in a fourth-place tie at 149 in the individual standings. Wisconsin's Malinda Johnson won the individual title by shooting a two-under-par 70 Friday, finishing at an even-par 144 for the tournament.

Baylor, which finished tied with Tulane at 614, edged the Green Wave in a one-hole playoff for second place. The Bears combined to shoot four-under-par in the playoff at Hole 1, to Tulane's one-under, and finished as runner up.

Northwestern shot a second-round best 301 and finished in fourth place with a two-round 616 (315-301), followed by Wisconsin in fifth at 620 (317-303). Rounding out the top 10 were Texas A&M in sixth at 621 (313-308), Nebraska (323-310) and Illinois (324-309) tied for seventh at 633, Kent State at ninth with a 637 (317-320) and Missouri in 10th at 642 (323-319).

Baylor was led by senior Nicole Johnson, who shot a second round one-over-par 73 Friday to finish in a sixth-place tie at 150 (77-73). Junior Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson finished tied for 10th at 153 after carding a 77 in the second round (76-77). Rounding out the scoring for the Bears was Tara Bateman, who finished tied at 15th with a 154 (79-75), Melanie Hagewood, who tied for 20th with a 157 (80-77), and Kelli McKandless, who shot a 168 (91-77) and finished 68th. Baylor's Michaelyn Morgan (164 - 52nd) and Jennie Persson (176 - 92nd) competed as individuals.

Participating teams included seven Big 12 schools and three Big 10 schools. Eleven of the 20 participating teams are currently ranked among the nation's top 70 teams according to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin poll (No. 31 Northwestern, No. 32 Kent State, No. 33 Tulane, No. 34 Baylor, No. 51 Texas Tech, No. 52 Wisconsin, No. 55 Missouri, No. 58 Kansas State, No. 62 Iowa State, No. 66 Illinois and No. 67 Nebraska). The remainder of the field is as follows: McLennan C.C., Middle Tennessee, North Texas, Ohio, Sam Houston State, Southwest Texas State, Texas A&M, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi and UT-Pan American.
