Men's Tennis Advances to Tourney Finals

COLLEGE STATION, Texas - The 6th-ranked Baylor men's tennis team defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders 4-1 in the semifinals of the Big 12 Tennis Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Texas A&M Tennis Center. The victory propels the Bears into the tournament's championship match for the third time in four years.

The Bears are now 24-1 on the season which ties the program's record for most victories in a season and extends their record-setting win streak to 15 matches.

It took Baylor only 30 minutes to win the doubles point. At No.1 doubles, Markus Hornung and Nathan McGregor disposed of Richard Crabtree and Ben Gudzelak in just 25 minutes, blanking the Red Raiders 8-0. Benjamin Becker and Zoltan Papp allowed their Tech counterparts just one game as they beat Royce Ramey and Devin Wakeford 8-1 at No. 2 doubles.

In singles Zoltan Papp earned the Bears their second point of the afternoon with a victory over Ben Gudzelak at No. 2. Baylor's Armando Carrascosa made it three points when he won at No. 6 over David Knaszak. Texas Tech's Alfonso Perez earned the Red Raiders lone point of the day when he beat Reiner Neurohr at No. 5, 6-4, 6-4. At No. 4 singles, Matias Marin sealed the win for Baylor with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory.

The Bears will face the winner of the Texas/Texas A&M match. The tournament's championship match will be on Sunday, at 1 p.m. at the Texas A&M Tennis Center.
