ASKER, Norway - Jake Sullivan of Iowa State hit five 3-pointers and scored 15 points to lead the Big 12 Men's Basketball All-Star squad to a convincing 92-69 win over the Norwegian national team Saturday at the Vollen Gymnasium in Asker, Norway.
The win came in the first of a two-game series against the Norwegian nationals, and pushed the Big 12's record to 3-0 on its current tour of Scandinavia.
"We played a stiffer competition tonight in the national team and I thought we responded real well," Baylor head coach Dave Bliss said. "We had a great day of touring around so you never really know where you might leave your legs. I felt we got off to a great start, and then had a typical game in that we kind of jockeyed for position in the first quarter and then we were able to extend it."
In what is becoming a trend, the Big 12 All-Stars used a big second-quarter push to open a comfortable lead. Up 27-23 after one quarter, the Big 12 All-Stars scored 15 unanswered points to start the second period and extend their lead to 19.
"Jake Sullivan is shooting the ball real well," Bliss said. "Nick Anderson, we started him because he's been deserving it and he played really well. I thought Lawrence Roberts had his best game. Lawrence has made a sacrifice in that he's playing out of position because we are blessed with many post players. He has been playing the wing and had 10 points and five rebounds today and I thought had his best all-around game."
Sullivan was a perfect 5-for-5 from the field, all 3-pointers, to finish with a team-high 15 points. Anderson of Texas A&M scored 12 points and had seven rebounds and three steals. Pervis Pasco of Kansas State led the team with eight rebounds in addition to six points before fouling out.
The Big 12 All-Stars, consisting of one player from each conference school, return to face the Norwegian national team again Sunday in Asker, a suburb of Oslo. The All-Stars are three games into a six-game, 11-day tour of Sweden, Norway and Denmark. This is the sixth annual Big 12 All-Star team, and the third men's squad.
