HOUSTON, Texas - Bo Price and Debbie Thornhill both posted first-place finishes here early Saturday morning as Baylor concluded a strong showing at the 28th annual Rice Invitational.
The women, as a team, finished first with a total time of 1:11:21, 26 seconds ahead of runner up Rice. The men finished second with a total time of 1:34:13, just three seconds behind Sam Houston State.
Price ran the men's 6k in a time of 18 minutes, 3 seconds; he was one of three Bears to place in the top 10. Rob Morrow, a freshman from Grapevine, Texas, finished second at 18:14. Sam Bernal finished seventh at 18:39. Baylor also got strong outings from Nick Davenport (14th, 19:04) and Robert Harris (35th, 20:13).
Thornhill, a junior transfer from North Texas, dominated the women's field by winning the 4,100 meter run by 29 seconds. She finished the run in 13:35, teammates Megan McCoin (2nd, 14:04) and Leah Marbach (3rd 14:12) finished second and third, respectively.
In all, Baylor placed six women in the top 30. Katherine Duncan finished 18th (15:07), Anna Kaczmarek was 22nd (15:12), and Stephanie Bennett was 28th (15:19).
Sophomore Lindsey Price finished 33rd (15:39) and freshman April Hurst finished 37th (15:59)
Both teams return to action in one week when the Bears host the Baylor Invitational.
