WACO, Texas - Baylor assistant basketball coach Matthew Driscoll and freshman Carl Marshall visited Provident Heights Elementary on Thursday. The visit was a surprise for the fifth grade students, who were only expecting a small party.

Driscoll and Marshall arrived to discuss the value of education and the importance of staying away from drugs. They also stressed responsibility and reminded the children what it means to be part of a team.

Driscoll, who said he taught fifth grade for five years, enjoyed speaking about what it truly means to be a leader, especially when you are young.

"It's ok for leaders to make mistakes," said Driscoll. "You have to recognize them and correct them."

Marshall spoke to the kids about the importance of making good grades and staying in school.

"I worked hardest on grades," Marshall said. "Grades are my number one priority over basketball."

After the question and answer session, Driscoll and Marshall taught the students some skills, which the kids were able to use during an impromptu basketball game.

The school visit is just one example of how Baylor athletes and coaches give back to the Waco community.
