Women Golfers Slip Into Eighth At Big 12 Championship

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Baylor women's golf team played the second of three rounds at the Big 12 Championships today at the Country Club of Missouri, falling one slot into eighth place after carding a 313 (321-312=634).

The Bears are still currently being led by senior Hanna-Sofia Svenningsson, who shot a 77 today putting her tied for 12th place (76-77=153).

Senior Melanie Hagewood, who shot a 78 today, is currently tied for 22nd place (78-78=156). Junior Michaelyn Morgan moved into 33rd place after carding a 77 today (83-77=160). Junior Kelli McKandless shot a second-round 83 putting her tied for 50th place (84-83=167), and freshman Josefin Svenningsson is currently tied for 56th place after scoring an 81 today (90-81=171).

Nebraska senior Sarah Sasse is leading the competition after carding a 74 today (74-74=148). Rounding out the top-five individuals are Kansas State senior Miranda Smith (78-71=149), OSU freshman Karin Sjodin (77-72=149), Missouri freshman Denise Knaebel (75-74=149) and OSU senior Christi Cano (73-76=149).

Missouri leads the Big 12 Championships with a two-round 604 (304-300), followed by Oklahoma State (309-296=605), Texas (307-302=609) and Baylor 13 strokes off the lead with 641. Nebraska trails six strokes behind Baylor with a 647.

The final round will be played on Wednesday, and the winner of the 2003 Big 12 Championship will be announced tomorrow afternoon.
