Tennis Teams Selected for NCAA Tournament

WACO, Texas - Baylor men's and women's tennis teams have been selected for the 2003 NCAA Tennis Tournament. The men, the tournament's No. 2 seed, will host first and second rounds while the women will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C.

The men's team, 25-1 on the season and ranked No. 3 nationally, will be making their sixth straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Bears will host UT-Arlington, TCU and SMU. No. 24 TCU will take on SMU and Baylor will play UT-Arlington in the first round. Official dates, times and ticket prices will be announced at a later time.

The women's team has appeared in the NCAA Tournament on six occasions. Last season they missed the tournament for the first time since 1996, breaking a streak of six consecutive appearances. Joey Scrivano, in his first season at the helm of the women's program, currently has his team ranked No. 36. They will travel to Chapel Hill, N.C., where they will play No. 19 Clemson. In other first round action, North Carolina, currently ranked No. 11, will play the College of Charleston. Dates and times will be announced later.

The team brackets for both championships will include 64 teams. First- and second-round competition will be concluded May 9-11 at 16 different sites (four teams per site) for each championship.

For the women's championship, the 16 first- and second-round site winners will advance to the University of Florida to complete the round of 16 (Thurs., May 15), quarterfinals (Fri., May 16), semifinals (Sat., May 17) and the national championship (Sun., May 18).

For the men's championship, the 16 first- and second-round site winners will advance to the University of Georgia to complete the round of 16 (Sat., May 17), quarterfinals (Sun., May 18), semifinals (Mon., May 19) and the national championship (Tues., May 20).
