WACO, Texas - Baylor basketball players Matt Sayman and Terrance Thomas visited Wiley Middle School on Wednesday. The visit was part of an after school program called "Too Cool for Trouble," which provides a safe learning environment for students who are potential candidates for dropping out of school.
Sayman and Thomas spoke to the children about staying in school and trying to make good grades. They also told the students who their role models were while they were in school.
"It?s always just been me, my mom, and brother," Thomas said. "Everything I do is for her."
Sayman said his role model was a special person who had been in his life since he was very young.
Thomas revealed that he used to be a student at Wiley Middle School.
"I remember sitting there when I was your age," he said, pointing to the back of the cafeteria. "This brings back some memories."
After speaking, the children had many questions for the players. They asked what position they played, what their numbers are, and how tall they are.
Sayman laughed and said that he is 6-foot-3, but he looked at Thomas, who is 6-foot-6, and joked, "He is a little taller than me."
Later, the athletes played games, passed out T-shirts, and signed them for the kids.
Carolyn Nichols, director of Too Cool for Trouble, was excited about the visit.
"They (the students) are having so much fun," she said.
