Men's Tennis Begins 2004 Campaign with Win

Waco, Texas - Baylor men's tennis easily overcame No. 41 Mississippi State Saturday by an over all score of 6-1. The match was moved to Ennis indoor stadium due to rain in Waco.
Baylor's doubles teams were able to win the doubles point with wins from the No. 16 duo of Benedikt Dorsch and Ivor Lovrak defeating No. 32 Romain Ambert and Florent Girod 8-5. Baylor's only doubles loss was Martija Zgaga and Jason Gould's loss to Jose-Carlos Pinto and Luiz Carvalho 8-6. The last doubles match went to Baylor with Matias Marin and Benjamin Becker defeating Matt Armstrong and Romain Provenzano 8-1giving Baylor the doubles point.
In singles play, No. 3 Dorsch defeated No. 4 Ambert in the number one spot by a score of 6-2, 6-1. In the number two spot Baylor's Zagaga defeated Luiz Carvalho 6-4, 6-3. In the number three spot No. 5 Benjamin Becker easily cruised past Pinto 6-2, 6-1 and Baylor senior Matias Marin defeated Max Fomine 6-1, 6-3 in the number four spot. In the number five spot Ivor Lovrak struggled early against Florent Girod but came back to win 4-6, 6-1, 6-1. In his first match as a Baylor Bear Adrian Szatmary lost to Romain Provenzano 6-3, 6-3.
The Bears next match will be at 2:30 p.m. against UL-Lafayette at the Baylor Tennis Center in Waco.
