Baylor Falls To No. 18 Kansas State

Manhattan - Kansas State collected 11 service aces, led by freshman Angie Lastra's six, and 12.5 total blocks, as the No. 18 Wildcats swept Baylor, 30-22, 30-21, 30-26, Wednesday night before 1,001 fans at Ahearn Field House for their second straight win. With the win, Kansas State improved to 13-6 overall and 7-3 in Big 12 play, while Baylor fell to 10-10 and 3-7.
K-State again went on the defensive as, after holding Texas Tech to -.017 hitting on Saturday, the Wildcats forced Baylor into 29 attack errors, including 12.5 K-State blocks, as the Bears were held to .019 hitting on Wednesday. Joy Hamlin led the charge with six blocks, while Lisa Martin had five and Agata Rezende and Sandy Werner each had four.
The Wildcats used an aggressive service attack against Baylor as the Big 12's leading server, Angie Lastra, collected a career-high six aces to lead the way.
In game one, K-State hit .353 to the Bears' .156 as the Wildcats broke open a 14-14 tie and went on a 10-4 run to take a commanding 24-18 lead late in the game. Rezende and Werner each collected five kills in the game, while Lastra picked up three of her six aces in the first game. Werner and Martin each added late kills in the game as K-State won, 30-22.
Baylor closed to within 12-11 early in game two as a Hejjas attack error brought the Bears to within one in the opening stages. But, again, a 10-4 run, capped by a Lastra ace, put the Wildcats up for good at 22-15. K-State went on the win the second game, 30-21. The Wildcat defense held Baylor to .000 hitting for the game with 10 kills and 10 errors.
K-State looked to be in cruise control in game three as the `Cats broke open a 20-18 game with an 6-2 run to take a 26-20 lead. But, the Bears fought back to within two at 28-26 until K-State clinched the match after a Baylor error and a Rezende kill.
Baylor was led by Stella Odion's nine kills, while Kelly Spriggs was the most efficient, hitting .267.
