WACO, Texas (AP) - DeAndre Alexander scored 23 points and pulled down 14 rebounds to lead Louisiana-Monroe to a 75-61 win over Baylor on Wednesday night.
After Baylor's Tommy Swanson went to the bench with his third personal foul with 16:41 left in the second half, Louisiana-Monroe (2-0) put together a 9-0 run and took a 44-33 lead. The Bears (1-1) closed to a single point at 46-45 fueled by Kevis Shipman's 3-pointer and a pair of 3-pointers by Aaron Bruce, who led Baylor scoring with 19 points.
With just over seven minutes remaining, Shipman tied the game 50-50 with his fourth 3-pointer of the night. But the Indians never relinquished the lead and hit 11 consecutive free throws in the final two minutes to clinch the victory.
Louisiana-Monroe dominated Baylor inside, outrebounding the Bears 50 to 30 and scoring 34 points in the paint to Baylor's 16.
Louisiana-Monroe opened the game with a 12-0 run, holding the Bears scoreless for almost six minutes before Patrick Fields hit a 3-pointer for Baylor. The Bears then hit 12 straight points and tied the game midway through the first half.
Louisiana-Monroe led 31-29 at the half on Isaac Gay's tip-in with 10 seconds remaining.
