Volleyball Falls 3-1 at Missouri

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Baylor junior outside hitter Stella Odion (Houston, Texas) had a team-high 16 kills as the Bears lost to Missouri, 3-1 (18-30, 19-30, 30-24, 15-30), in Big 12 volleyball action Saturday at the Hearnes Center.
Sophomore right-side hitter Nicole LeBlanc (Tampa, Fla.) recorded her fourth double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs, while sophomore middle blocker Desiree Guilliard-Young (Berkeley, Calif.) added 12 kills. Freshman defensive specialist Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) had a match-high 11 digs to lead the Bears (6-5, 0-2 Big 12) defensively.
Not much went the Bears' way in game one as Missouri (5-3, 1-1) hit .471 and Baylor hit .032. Missouri led 7-6 then scored the next four points on Shen Danru's serve. The Tigers extended the lead to as many as 13 before taking the game, 30-18.
Missouri took an early 8-5 lead in game two, then scored four straight behind Danru to stretch the lead. Missouri pushed the lead to nine with a 7-2 run and led by as many as 12, before closing out the game, 30-19. The Tigers hit .406 for the game, while the Bears hit only .135.
Baylor was much better after the intermission, trading points with the Tigers for most of game three. Missouri took an early 9-5 edge, which allowed them to keep control for much of the game. The Bears were able to cut the deficit to one several times and eventrally tied the game, 23-23. After a Missouri sideout, Baylor scored the next seven points, including an ace from Schramek, to take the game, 30-24. The Bears hit .594 and got six kills each from Odion and LeBlanc and five from Guilliard-Young. Missouri still hit well at .351, but couldn't match Baylor down the stretch.
Missouri went up 9-3 early in game four, but Baylor responded with five straight points to get back within one. Missouri responded with a 6-1 run to regain control. After Missouri went up, 25-15, Danru served out the match, 30-15.
Danru led Missouri with a match-high 19 kills and 11 digs, while Jessica Vander Kooi added 17 kills. Lisa Boyd posted 13 kills, and Nicole Wilson had 11. Tatum Ailes added 11 digs, and Lindsey Hunter had 58 assists.
The Bears return to action when they host Oklahoma Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.
