COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Michal Kokta and Jon Reckewey each won two matches on Friday in the Wilson/ITA South Central Regional Tennis Tournament in College, Station, Texas, to advance to the quarterfinals of the 128-player competition. In addition, Reckewey and Matija Zgaga teamed up to advance to the doubles quarterfinals.
Kokta, Baylor's top-seeded player, seeded fifth in the tournament, defeated TCU's Radu Barbu in straight sets 6-2, 7-6 in the round of 32 then downed Ralph Knupfer of Rice in a three-set match 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. Kokta, a junior, will take on Andrev Jumantsov of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in quarterfinal action.
Reckewey, a junior, advanced to the quarterfinals after disposing of 15th-seeded Jacopo Tezza of TCU 7-6, 6-4 then defeated SMU's Federico Murgier 7-6, 7-6. Murgier had defeated seventh-seeded Bryan Wooten (Texas A&M) in the round of 32.
Zgaga, seeded No. 8, bowed out of the tournament with a three-set loss to Texas A&M's Matt Bain, 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Freshman Matt Brown also lost in the round of 32, fourth-seeded Roger Gubser of Texas posted a 6-3, 6-2 win.
In doubles round of 16 action, Reckewey and Zgaga took on Texas's Luis Diaz Barriga and Milan Mihailovic and moved on to the quarterfinals with an 8-6 victory. Brown and Kokta were to have faced the tournament's top-seeded tandem of Brett Joelson and Bryan Wooten of Texas A&M but withdrew due to illness.
Quarterfinal singles action will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday and semifinals will follow at 2:00 p.m. Doubles matches are slated to begin at 4:00 p.m.

Baylor sophomore William Ward, playing in the USTA Pro Futures of Arlington lost his match to fourth-seeded Eric Nunez, 6-1, 6-2. Ward had won four matches to earn a berth in the main draw of the pro tournament.
