WACO, Texas - Inconsistency plagued Baylor on both ends of the floor in a 3-1 (25-30, 30-23, 23-30, 19-30) loss to Texas A&M in Big 12 volleyball action Wednesday night at the Ferrell Center.
Junior outside hitter Nicole LeBlanc (Tampa, Fla.) led the Bears (14-11, 5-8 Big 12) with 16 kills and 11 digs for her seventh straight double-double. Junior middle blocker Desiree Guilliard-Young (Berkeley, Calif.) added 14 kills, while senior middle blocker Stella Odion (Houston, Texas) had 11 kills and seven blocks. Senior defensive specialist Maggie Chlebana (Calgary, Alberta) posted a career-high 17 digs to lead the Bears defensively.
Laura Jones led Texas A&M (11-11, 4-9) with 31 kills, while Christi Hahn and Kendra Felder had nine each. Holly Clay led the Aggies with 16 digs.
Texas A&M jumped out to a quick led in game one, leading by as many as eight and held the Bears off the rest of the way for a five-point victory, 30-25. The Aggies hit .289 in the game, while holding the Bears to .143.
Baylor was solid in game two, taking the lead for good at 13-12. The Bears led by as many as seven and maintained that margin until the end as they tied the match with a 30-23 decision. Baylor hit .500 with 18 kills on 32 attacks and only two errors and held Texas A&M to .190.
The Aggies again jumped out quickly in game three and never looked back as they took the lead for good at 3-2. Baylor threatened as it cut the lead to two at 19-17, but Texas A&M slowly pulled away and won the game, 30-23. The Aggies hit .270, while the Bears hit .135.
Texas A&M continued to roll in game four, taking a 13-5 lead before a Baylor timeout. The Aggies pushed the lead to 20-10 and scored the final three points of the match for a 30-19 win.
The Bears return to action when they travel to face No. 14 Texas Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at Gregory Gym in Austin, Texas.
