Baylor head coach Steve Smith
"I thought it was another good college baseball game. Both teams played well. If Mark is on and throwing the ball in the strike zone, he is just a tough guy to handle. We did play very well defensively. We got some leadoff guys on and we were able to be aggressive."
On Mark McCormick's performance:
"At no time in the game did I ever feel like Mark got out of rhythm or got out of steam. They were a good type of team for him to throw against because they don't like to take pitches. I have about seven or eight weeks of tape that are just like what he did today. He had a bad outing against Texas A&M. Other than that, the guy has been really good."
Baylor Pitcher Mark McCormick
On his performance:
"I had good stuff; but, it took me awhile to find the breaking ball. So, I was throwing the slider more. I felt good out there and I had guys making plays behind me so I had a few short-pitch innings. It just went smooth."
Baylor Right Fielder Seth Fortenberry:
On clutch hitting:
"Yesterday, we let a lot of big situations go by with no outs and runners in scoring position. Coming through in clutch is a big thing, and Jeff (Mandel) has been doing it a lot lately. It's good to just see us all just get over yesterday and start a new day."
Baylor First Baseman Jeff Mandel
On clutch hitting:
"Today we came out and we had our backs against the wall and we wanted to just get on them early. So we took some hacks and the balls were falling for us."
On being a game away from Omaha:
"I'm more excited than ever right now because I have total faith in our pitching tomorrow. We have such a great pitching left. We've got the whole bullpen."
Clemson head coach Jack Leggett
"Well we just really could not get much going today.Their kid(Mark McCormick) did a good job and you have to give him credit. He pitched very well and we just kept thinking he might lose a little bit of control. But, he had it going today. He had his breaking pitches going, he had his fastball going and he was on the mark. They hit the ball pretty good and they found the holes and they took advantage of the opportunities that they had. We just couldn't really get anything going offensively and when we got behind he got some confidence and just kept rolling. We just have to be ready to play tomorrow. This one is gone and we just have to be ready for tomorrow."
Clemson Third Baseman Herman Demmink
"He(McCormick) threw all of his pitches for strikes. I felt like he had a pretty good approach. For most of the at-bats, he started me off as well as some of the other players with different pitches on the first pitch of each at bat so we weren't necessarily prepared for what was coming."
On the scouting report for Mark McCormick:
"We knew he had the ability to do what he did today. We didn't know which Mark McCormick we were going to see. We knew there were some times earlier in the season where he may have had a little bit of control problems. But, today that wasn't the case. He threw very well and I tip my hat to him because he seemed to do everything right and when he needed a big pitch he reached back and got it for himself."
Clemson Pitcher Josh Cribb
On Baylor scoring their first five runs with two outs: "All of their runs came with two outs and that's something you just have to bear down on. You got to tip your hats to the offense from Baylor, those guys came out ready to hit today. I was throwing a fastball outside and they were taking the ball the other way. So, you got to give those guys credit. The pitches I left up in the zone they were hitting."
