BAYLOR SOCCER CLOSES OUT HOME PORTION OF THE SCHEDULE

WACO, Texas - The Baylor soccer team returns to action this weekend as the Bears close out their home portion of the 2006 schedule, hosting No. 12 Oklahoma State on Friday, Oct. 13, at 7:00 p.m. before a meeting with Oklahoma on Sunday, Oct. 15, at 1:00 p.m. Prior to the match against the Cowgirls, seniors Missy McConnell and Anna Schuch will be honored in a pre-match ceremony.

"This could turn out to me one of the most important weekends of the season," head coach George Van Linder said. "Oklahoma State and Oklahoma have been playing extremely well as of late. However, I know the team will be up to the challenge as they realize how important these matches are in determining where we finish in the conference standings."

Baylor enters the weekend with a record of 5-7-1, 2-3-0 in Big 12 action, and currently stands in a tie for sixth in the conference standings after an overtime loss at Nebraska last weekend. The Bears are led by Schuch, who leads the team with five goals and 13 points on the season, and McConnell, who became only the 14th player in school history to collect goals in three consecutive games with her goal against the Huskers.

Oklahoma State (11-2-1, 6-1-0) enters the weekend as the surprise of the Big 12 Conference. The Cowgirls, who were predicted to finish seventh in the pre-season Big 12 poll, enter the weekend tied for first in the conference. Oklahoma State is led by Yolanda Odenu, who leads the team with four goals, five assists and 13 points on the year.

After the match against the Cowgirls, the Bears will face Oklahoma in the home finale as the Sooners enter the contest one point ahead of Baylor in the conference standings after sweeping Iowa State and Missouri last weekend. Kady Kelly leads the way for the Sooners, leading the team with six goals, five assists and 17 points on the season.

Baylor leads the all-time series with Oklahoma State, 5-3-2, while Oklahoma holds a slight 4-3-2 edge over the Bears in the series. Last season, Baylor fell to Oklahoma State, 3-0, before dropping a 1-0 decision to the Sooners.
