LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The Kansas soccer team scored in the 10th minute and managed to hang on as the Baylor soccer team dropped a tough, 1-0 decision to the Jayhawks in action at the Jayhawk Soccer Complex on Friday. With the loss Baylor falls to 6-9-1, 3-5-0 in conference play while Kansas improves to 10-6-0, 5-3-0 in Big 12 action, with the win.
Jessica Bush put the Jayhawks on the board in the 10th minute as she took a pass from Holly Gault and connected on a shot for her sixth goal of the season. Missy Geha was also credited with an assist on the play as the Jayhawks took an early, 1-0 lead.
The Kansas defense, which came into the game allowing only three goals in conference play, managed to keep Baylor off the board the rest of the way as the Jayhawks picked up their fourth straight win over the Bears.
Baylor played even with the Jayhawks throughout as Kansas held a slight, 14-10 edge in shots while each team took four corner kicks on the afternoon.
Anna Schuch led the way with four shots for Baylor while Ashley Holder made five saves in net for the Bears in the loss.
Julie Hanley picked up three saves in net while recording the shutout victory for Kansas.
Baylor will look to rebound from the loss as the Bears return to action on Sunday, Oct. 22, when the Bears travel to Boulder, Colo., to face Colorado at 2:00 p.m.
