Bruce And Jerrells Receive Basketball Honors

WACO, Texas - Baylor's starting backcourt, guards Aaron Bruce and Curtis Jerrells, was honored with various awards announced Monday. Bruce was named an honorable mention All-Big 12 selection by the league's coaches and true freshman Jerrells was selected to the coaches Big 12 All-Rookie team and named to the conference All-Freshman team by the league media.
Bruce's all-conference honor is Baylor's 17th in the 10-year history of the league. Bruce, a sophomore, was honored as a third-team All-Big 12 selection last season as a freshman. The native Australian is averaging 13.0 points per game and ranks third the Big 12 in 3-point percentage (43.0%) and fourth in 3-pointers made (2.7 3pg). Bruce was recently voted the Big 12's "Most Underrated Player" by opposing players in a poll conducted by Sports Illustrated.
Jerrells is the fourth Baylor player selected to the All-Freshman team, joining teammate Bruce (2005), Lawrence Roberts (2002) and John Lucas III (2002). The lefty from Austin, Texas, leads Baylor in scoring (13.1 ppg), assists (3.3 apg), steals (1.4 spg) and minutes (33.2 mpg). Jerrells earned Big 12 Rookie of the Week honors and Rivals.com National Freshman of the Week honors Feb. 13 after scoring a career-best 28 points on 5-of-6 3-pointers in Baylor's 90-64 win over Missouri (the 28-point effort matched the top scoring game by a Big 12 freshman this season).
