WACO, Texas - Na Yang recorded a match-high 19 kills and Megan Wilson added 10 kills as Missouri defeated Baylor 3-0 (30-27, 30-25, 30-23) on Saturday night at the Ferrell Center.
Tatum Ailes tallied 21 digs on the night, while Caitlyn Vann and Yang added 15 and 13 digs, respectively. Ailes also recorded two service aces to lead the Tigers.
"Tonight was much of the same story as our previous matches," said head coach Jim Barnes. "We came out and competed and were able to get the lead, but then we have too many unforced errors and weren't able to hang on."
Katie Sanders (Katy, Texas) recorded a team-high 15 kills and Ashlie Christenson (Cleburne, Texas) added 13 kills for the Bears. Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) tallied eight kills and seven blocks (one solo).
Taylor Barnes (Arlington, Texas) led the back row defense with 14 digs, while Kelsey Smith (Lubbock, Texas), Kristen Schramek (San Antonio, Texas) and Sanders also reached double-figures in digs.
Barnes also added 39 set assists and one service ace. Sarah Grace (Houston, Texas) added an ace and eight digs.
Baylor (9-10, 2-7 Big 12) tallied only four total blocks against Texas on Wednesday, but responded on Wednesday with 13 team blocks (4.33 bpg) against Missouri. Breyfogle recorded seven blocks, while Barnes and Amanda Modglin (Houston, Texas) added four apiece.
Missouri (12-6, 5-4 Big 12) hit just .178 (15-7-45) in game one, but only tallied five hitting errors in games two and three to raise its hitting percentage to .238 for the match.
In game one, Baylor led by as many as six points at 19-13 on a Sanders kill, but Missouri trimmed the lead and tied the game at 24 apiece. The Tigers took a three point lead on a block assist to make the score 28-25, but Baylor cut the lead to one with kills by Sanders and Ashley Byrd (Denton, Texas). A Missouri kill and a Baylor attack error gave the Tigers game one 30-28.
The two teams exchanged points over the first 30 serves of game two. Missouri earned a five point lead at 24-19 to force Baylor into a timeout, but the Bears responded with two kills by Sanders and consecutive blocks from Byrd and Barnes to trim the lead to one. Missouri then won three straight and held on for the 30-25 win.
Missouri jumped out quickly in game one, and held a three-point lead after 20 serves. The Tigers got five straight points off the serve of Lei Wang as Missouri built as much as an eight-point lead. Baylor won five of six points to cut the lead to five at 25-20, but Missouri cruised to the 30-23 win to complete the sweep.
