WACO, Texas - Baylor's equestrian team will hit the road for its third straight road meet when it matches up against Texas A&M on Sunday, Oct. 21, at 10 a.m., at the N.W. `Dick' Freeman Arena in College Station, Texas.
The Bears are 0-3 on the season after suffering losses to Georgia, Kansas State and Oklahoma State while the Aggies are 2-0 with home victories over Stephen F. Austin and New Mexico State.
Seven riders will represent the Bears in English competition. Nicole Brown, Mary Smitson, Shelby White, Beth Banister and Kendra Vicary will ride in both Equitation Over Fences and Equitation on the Flat. Additionally, Analisa Muti will compete in Fences and Cara Wilson will saddle up in Flat. On the season, Brown and Smitson have produced the most points for the Bears. In six rides, Brown, a junior from Zionsville, Ind., has scored four points and was named MVP four times as well. Smitson, a freshman also from Zionsville, Ind., has tallied two points in Fences and one in Flat.
In the Western discipline, nine riders will compete for Baylor. Nicole McCoy, Lindsey Tomko and Morgan Williams will all ride in both Horsemanship and Reining. In addition, Allison Orosz, Missy Gonzalez and Lindsay Douglas will compete in Horsemanship and Madelyn Mooney, Valtie Riddle and Katie Buss will participate in Reining. Buss, a freshman from Concrete, Wash., and Riddle, a sophomore from Tucumcari, N.M., have each scored two points for the Bears this season, while Mooney, a sophomore from Riverside, Calif., is the only Western rider to claim an MVP this fall which she accomplished against Georgia.
"We were not very sharp at Kansas State and Oklahoma State but we've been working very hard this week. Texas A&M is always strong, we have our work cut out for us," said head coach Ellen White.
The competition format will feature a series of head-to-head match ups. The team accumulating the most head-to-head victories will win the overall match. In the event of a tie, the victor will be determined by total points. In addition, there will be an individual award for the most valuable player in each event.
Freeman Arena is located on the west side of FM 2818/Harvey Mitchell Parkway, approximately one mile north of University Drive.
Full show results will be posted at www.baylorbears.com upon the event's completion.
