Following an open date on Saturday, the Baylor volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday with a trip down I-35 to face seventh-ranked Texas in Austin. The match is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at Gregory Gym.
Baylor is coming off a 3-1 win over Texas Tech last Wednesday night that saw the Bears end their five-match home losing streak. Baylor had not won in the Ferrell Center since a 3-0 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Aug. 31 in the first match of the Baylor Invitational.
The Bears hit a season-high .383 in defeating the Red Raiders, connecting on 72 kills and just 15 hitting errors in 149 total attacks. Over the last two games, Baylor did not commit an unforced hitting error as their four hitting errors came as the result of Texas Tech blocks.
Katie Sanders (Katy, Texas) led the way for the Bears with a career-high 25 kills. She only committed four hitting errors in 48 swings to record a career-best .438 hitting percentage.
Ashlie Christenson (Cleburne, Texas) also had a career night with 16 kills and only one hitting error in 24 total attacks. Her hitting percentage of .625 was the fifth-highest in Baylor history for a four-game match. The total ranks as the third-best hitting percentage in Big 12 action this season and the best performance by an outside hitter.
Anna Breyfogle (Buda, Texas) added nine kills and eight total blocks (one solo) for Baylor. Her blocking total marked the third week this season that Breyfogle tallied at least 2.0 blocks per game.
Texas enters the match with a No. 7 national ranking and riding a six-match winning streak. Last week, the Longhorns swept Texas A&M in College Station and held on to defeat No. 17 Kansas State in Manhattan. Texas opened the season with two losses to Penn State, and its only conference loss came to top-ranked Nebraska in Lincoln.
Baylor will return to action on Saturday as the Bears return home to play host to Missouri at 6:30 p.m. at the Ferrell Center. The radio broadcast will be available at BaylorBears.com beginning at 6:20 p.m.
