WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team will travel to the University of Oklahoma to compete in the Susie Maxwell-Berning Classic April 8-9. The 6,013-yard, par-72 Jimmie Austin University of Oklahoma Golf Course will host Arkansas, Arkansas-Little Rock, Baylor, Cameron, Kansas, Kansas State, New Mexico State, North Texas, Oklahoma, Oklahoma City, Oral Roberts, Redlands Community College, SMU, Texas Tech, Tulsa, UTEP, Wichita State and Wisconsin.
The Bears have competed at the invitational 16 times since 1989. Their best finish came in 2002 finishing second (300-299-311=910). Baylor is coming off a sixth place finish at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. Allison Martin (69-72-76=217) tied for tenth to lead the Bears. Martin was also named Big 12 Golfer of the Month for March for her outstanding performance.
"The Susie Maxwell is always a great tournament to play in leading into the Big 12. We expect some tough conditions, cold and wind, and it gets us into the competitive mode we need to be in. Every shot is important. I want to be in that last group, the last day, again, like at Tucson, with a chance to win," said head coach Sylvia Ferdon.
Ferdon has slotted seniors Allison Martin and Anna Rehnholm, juniors Sian Reddick and Stephanie Waters and freshmen Hannah Burke and Natalie Hocott as the starting lineup.
The Bears will return to action when they host the Big 12 Championship April 16-18 at the Ridgewood Country Club in Waco, Texas.
