Baylor returns to Waco to open its home schedule as the Bears play host to Texas State at 6:30 p.m. in the Ferrell Center.
The Bears opened the season at the University at Buffalo Classic last weekend, winning two of three matches. The Bears defeated Buffalo 3-0 on Friday night and downed North Carolina 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. Baylor dropped its final match 3-2 to Stony Brook on Saturday night.
Baylor is led by sophomore outside hitter Katie Sanders, who averages 4.92 kills and 3.25 digs per game and was named to the University at Buffalo Classic all-tournament team. Sanders recorded career highs of 21 kills and 15 digs during the weekend, and recorded the first three double-doubles of her career. Sophomore setter Taylor Barnes was also named to the all-tournament team 12.50 set assists and 2.08 digs per game. She tallied seven blocks and four service aces for the tournament. Sophomore middle blocker Anna Breyfogle tied a career high with 20 kills against Stony Brook. She is hitting .417 on the year and leads Baylor with 16 total blocks. Freshman defensive specialist Sarah Grace leads the team with 4.83 digs per game. After starting the first two matches at defensive specialist, Grace recorded a career-best 27 digs in her first match as libero.
The Bobcats are seeing their first action of the season on Tuesday. In 2006, Texas State finished with a 15-17 overall record, finishing fourth in the Southland Conference's west division. The Bobcats return eight letterwinners and three starters.
Baylor returns to action when it hosts the Clarion Invitational Friday and Saturday. The Bears face Stephen F. Austin on Friday night at 7 p.m. and take on Mississippi State (1 p.m.) and Oregon (7 p.m.) on Saturday afternoon. The live audio broadcast will be available on BaylorBears.com.
