GAME NIGHT STORY LINES
• Baylor officially opens the 2008-09 regular season Saturday when the Bears welcome NAIA member Paul Quinn College to the Ferrell Center. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. (the game was originally scheduled for 3 p.m.).
• Saturday's tilt marks the first meeting between the schools.
• Baylor is 18-10 all-time vs. current NAIA (Divisions I & II) members. Saturday's game will be the first time playing a NAIA opponent since Dec. 6, 1984 (112-67 win vs. John Brown).
• In Baylor's lone exhibition game, the Bears used a 15-0 run midway through the first half en route to a 76-44 victory over Tarleton State last Saturday. Sophomore LaceDarius Dunn led all Baylor players with a team-high 18 points.
• Baylor is 62-30 all-time in the month of November and 13-4 under head coach Scott Drew. Last season's 67-64 loss to Washington State snapped Baylor's eight-game November win streak.
• Baylor is 1-1 on Nov. 15 and 0-1 under head coach Scott Drew. In 2006, the Bears lost 78-69 at Gonzaga. Baylor's lone win on Nov. 15 came in 1997 against Troy State (98-44).
• The Baylor men's basketball team easily surpassed its highest preseason prediction in Big 12 history, tying Kansas for third in the 2008-09 Big 12 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll released in October.
• Baylor returns three All-Big 12 performers from a year ago -- Curtis Jerrells, Henry Dugat and Kevin Rogers. In fact, Jerrells is one of only two first-teamers returning in 2008-09 - the other four first-team picks were drafted in the 2008 NBA Draft (6 total).
• This season, the Bears could have as many as four players join the 1,000-point ranks. Seniors Kevin Rogers (880) and Henry Dugat (861) are the first two players in striking distance of the career milestone, while underclassmen Tweety Carter (575) and LaceDarius Dunn (421) could possibly make a run, too.

• Paul Quinn enters Saturday's season opener with a 2-2 overall mark, posting a 1-2 record on the road.
• The Tigers opened the season with a tough 78-76 conference loss at Wiley College on Nov. 1, but rebounded with a 68-61 win at Texas Southern two days later.
• Last Friday, Paul Quinn led by as many as 11 points with six minutes remaining and held a one-point lead with 1:30 left in regulation over LSU-Shreveport. But, a dunk by Louisiana Tech transfer Brandon Mims gave the LSUS Pilots the lead for good. LSU Shreveport held on for a 106-104 win over Paul Quinn.
• Joseph Cormadelle leads Paul Quinn with 25.0 and 6.8 rebounds per game. Johnathan Alexander is second on the team with 16.5 points, followed by Carl Nelson with 13.0 points per game. Nelson leads the Tigers with 7.0 boards per contest.
• Thanks to a 104-point outburst at LSU-Shreveport, the Tigers are average 81.0 points per game, outscoring opponents by 17.2 points.
PAUL QUINN'S LAST TIME OUT - PAUL QUINN 76, WILEY 71 [NOV. 8]
• Paul Quinn avenged a season-opening loss on the road with a 76-71 home win over Red River Athletic Conference rival Wiley College in Dallas.
• PQC shot 41 percent (25-of-61) from the floor and 81.8 percent (18-of-22) from the free throw line to outlast Wiley.
• Junior guard Johnathan Alexander scored a game-high 26 points on 7-of-11 shooting in 35 minutes. Forward Joseph Cormadelle added 18 points and 11 rebounds (10 defensive), while Carl Nelson chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds.
LAST TIME OUT - BAYLOR 76, TARLETON STATE 44 [NOV. 8 - EXHIBITION]
• Baylor used a 15-0 run midway through the first half en route to a 76-44 victory over Tarleton State in the Bears' lone exhibition game.
• Sophomore LaceDarius Dunn picked up right where he left off last season with a team-high 18 points and seven rebounds.
• Senior Kevin Rogers came up two rebounds short of a double-double, after recording 15 points and 8 boards. Senior Henry Dugat tallied 12 points and senior Curtis Jerrells chipped in six points, seven rebounds and four assists.
• The Bears took a 15-12 lead at the 11-minute mark and went on a 15-0 run for the next six minutes to jump to a 30-12 advantage.
• Behind 41.4 percent shooting in the first half, Baylor stretched its lead to 36-18 going into the break.
• Baylor shot 44.1 percent (26-of-59) for the game and held Tarleton State to 31.9 percent (15-of-47). The Bears' fastbreak defense was in mid-season form, holding the Texans to two points, while the Baylor offense tallied 14 points in the open court.
• The Bears forced 23 Tarleton State turnovers, which they converted into 24 points. Senior Eric Williams posted a double-double for the Texans with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Jeremiah Wilson added 10.

BAYLOR SELECTED THIRD IN BIG 12 PRESEASON POLL
• The Baylor men's basketball team easily surpassed its highest preseason prediction in Big 12 history, tying Kansas for third in the 2008-09 Big 12 Men's Basketball Preseason Poll released in October.
• The Bears, coming off their first NCAA appearance since 1988, received first-place votes (two) for the first time in Big 12 history. Prior to this poll, the highest BU had been selected in the preseason tally was No. 7 in 2006-07. Last season, the Bears were tabbed No. 9 in the preseason poll.
• Baylor finished six points behind preseason favorite Oklahoma (three first-place votes) and four behind second-place Texas (four first-place votes). KU, the defending NCAA champion, received the remaining three first-place votes.
• Texas A&M, Oklahoma State and Missouri - all postseason squads last season - were chosen fifth, sixth and seventh. The remainder of the poll is Kansas State at No. 8, followed by Nebraska, Texas Tech, Iowa State and Colorado. The Big 12 Conference will hold its preseason media day on Thursday, Oct. 23 in Oklahoma City - site of the 2009 Phillips 66 Big 12 Basketball Championships.
JERRELLS NAMED PRESEASON ALL-BIG 12
• Baylor senior guard Curtis Jerrells was named to the Preseason All-Big 12 team.
• Last season, Jerrells earned Baylor's second first-team selection in Big 12 history and the first since Terry Black earned the honor following the 2000-01 season. He became the fifth player in BU history to lead the team in scoring three straight seasons and was named to the NABC All-District 9 first team.
• The Austin, Texas, native enters his senior season 12th all-time at Baylor in scoring with 1,185 points. His career 3.69 assists per game average ranks eighth in school history.
• The consensus 2008 first team All-Big 12 selection led Baylor in points (15.3), assists (3.78) and minutes (31.2). He was named to Yahoo.com's All-America fourth team in 2008.
FORMER NBA STAR JOINS PROGRAM AS STUDENT MANAGER
• Baylor head men's basketball coach Scott Drew and his team welcomed an old face back to the program in former BU and NBA star David Wesley, who has been hired as a student manager, while completing his undergraduate degree.
• Wesley returns to Baylor after a successful 14-year NBA career. He scored 11,842 points and dished out 4,159 assists in 949 career games. He is one of only two undrafted players in NBA history to score 11,000 points. Wesley spent his rookie season with the New Jersey Nets in 1993-94 after signing as an undrafted free agent. From there, Wesley spent three seasons with the Boston Celtics, seven with the Charlotte/New Orleans Hornets, two with Houston and one with Cleveland. In what turned out to be his final NBA season, Wesley and the Cavaliers won the Eastern Conference championship and advanced to the NBA Finals for the first time.
• In three seasons for the Bears, the 6-foot-1 Wesley averaged 17 points and 4.4 assists in 72 games. He was named the Southwest Conference's Most Valuable Player in 1992 after averaging 20.6 points. The Longview, Texas, native currently ranks 10th all-time in scoring at Baylor with 1,224 points.
• When he left Baylor in 1993, Wesley was 33 hours short of a degree in physical education. Now, he returns to the Waco campus with the goal of finishing his degree.
BAYLOR INCLUDED IN ESPN'S COLLEGE HOOPS MARATHON
• The Baylor men's basketball game against Centenary College at the Ferrell Center will be included as part of ESPN's `College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon' on Tuesday, Nov. 18.
• The Bears and Gents will tip off at 3 p.m. CST on ESPN and ESPN360.com as the seventh game of the 14-game telecast schedule.
• Baylor also announced that its home game with South Carolina on Jan. 2 will tip at 4:30 p.m. CT on FSN Southwest. With the addition of the Centenary and USC games, a school-record 25 games will be televised at the regional and national levels, including 11 on the ESPN family of networks.
• ESPN, ESPN2 and ESPNU will offer 33 total hours of coverage overall highlighted by 14 game telecasts. ESPN360.com will offer a simulcast of every ESPN and ESPN2 telecast.
BU CRACKS PRESEASON TOP 25 IN FIVE PUBLICATIONS
• A season after BU cracked the Top 25 for the first time since 1969, the Bears premiered at No. 21 in Andy Katz's ESPN.com summer Top 25 poll: "The Bears return essentially intact, save Aaron Bruce. And that means Baylor...enters the season as one of the top teams in the Big 12. Winning the Big 12 isn't out of the question...the Bears, with a 1-2 punch of Curtis Jerrells and LaceDarius Dunn, have enough scoring - and now experience - to make a run at the league title."
• Baylor was also ranked No. 14 by NBADraft.net, No. 16 by Blue Ribbon, No. 17 by CollegeHoopsNet and No. 19 by Athlon. Rivals.com listed the Bears at No. 28.
BAYLOR SPORTS ONE OF BIG 12'S MOST EXPERIENCED TEAMS
• Baylor returns four of its five starters from last season's NCAA Tournament team and nearly all of its statistical production for the second season in a row. The Bears return 86.7 percent of last season's points (2254-of-2601), 87.0 percent of rebounds (1041-of-1196) and 82.0 percent of assists (318-of-388). In addition, BU returns 81.1 percent of its minutes played (5355-of-6600).
• Baylor returns eight letterwinners which have combined for 278 starts in 485 career games. Averaging a school-record 81.3 points per game, the Bears' sharpshooting offense featured a balanced attack with five players scoring at least 9.0 points per contest.
BAYLOR TO PLAY SCHOOL-RECORD 11 GAMES ON ESPN NETWORK
• Following its historic 2007-08 season, the Baylor will play a school-record 11 games on ESPN's family of networks in 2008-09.
• Last season, Baylor played five games on ESPN's family of networks (ESPN, ESPN 2, ESPNU, ESPN Classic). The Bears posted a 2-3 record and are 7-7 all-time on the ESPN network.
• Baylor hosts Centenary during ESPN's College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon on Tues., Nov. 18. It will be one of two home games telecast on ESPN.
• For the first time in program history, BU will be featured twice on ESPN's "Big Monday", first at home against defending national champion Kansas on Feb. 2 and then at Texas on March 2. In addition to its seven national TV games, BU will play eight conference games on the rebranded Big 12 Network (previously branded as ESPN Plus).
BAYLOR TO PLAY IN 76 CLASSIC
• Baylor will participate in the second annual 76 Classic, an eight-team tournament played Thanksgiving weekend in Anaheim, Calif.
• The 12-game, bracketed collegiate basketball tournament features eight schools that combined to win more than 62 percent of their games last season. The games will air live on either ESPN2 or ESPNU and will be played at the Anaheim Convention Center adjacent to Disneyland on Nov. 27, 28 and 30.
• Baylor is one of three schools in the 2008 76 Classic field that earned a berth in the 2008 NCAA Tournament, along with Cal State Fullerton and St. Mary's College. Completing the 2008 Anaheim Classic field are Providence, Wake Forest, Arizona State, Charlotte and UTEP.
AS GOOD AS ADVERTISED
• Sophomore LaceDarius Dunn was touted as one of the nation's best recruits when he entered his freshman season in 2007-08. Dunn finished second on the team with 13.6 points per game, while being named to the media's Big 12 All-Freshman and All-Reserve teams. He also was named Big 12 Rookie of the Week twice and later earned Freshman All-America honorable mention honors by CollegeHoopsNet.
• Dunn earned preseason All-Big 12 honors from Athlon and Lindy's. Athlon listed Dunn as one of the country's "Super Sophs."
1,000-POINT CLUB COULD GET BIGGER
• Last season, guard Curtis Jerrells became the 20th player in school history to eclipse the career 1,000-point plateau joining departed senior Aaron Bruce. This season, the Bears could have as many as four players join the 1,000-point ranks. Seniors Kevin Rogers (880) and Henry Dugat (861) are the first two players in striking distance of the career milestone, while underclassmen Tweety Carter (575) and LaceDarius Dunn (421) could possibly make a run, too.
DIENE NAMED BIG 12 MALE SPORTSPERSON OF THE YEAR
• Mamadou Diene was named the 2007-08 Big 12 Male Sportsperson of the Year in May.
• Diene is first Baylor male to receive the prestigious, eight-year-old award and the second student-athlete in school history, joining women's basketball player Jessica Stratton in 2004. He is the first-ever men's basketball student-athlete in the Big 12 to receive the award.
• Since his arrival from Senegal, Mamadou has been active in the Baylor community participating in service projects such as the Waco Independent School District's Raise Your Game, South Bosque Elementary School and the Hillcrest Professional School Health Fair. He is a member of BU's Student-Athlete Advisory Council, has been selected as the 2008 Wilma Rudolph Award winner and participated in the 2006 NCAA Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla.
RECORD-SETTING BEARS FINISH 11TH NATIONALLY IN SCORING
• Baylor averaged 81.3 points per game, highest among Big 12 schools and the 11th most nationally a year ago. That figure, bolstered by eight overtime periods, was the highest total at BU since 1993-94 (85.5 ppg). Baylor's 2,601 total points was a new school record.
JERRELLS LEADS ONE OF NATION'S BEST BACKCOURTS
• A consensus first-team All-Big 12 selection in 2008, Curtis Jerrells led the Bears in points (15.3), assists (3.78) and minutes (31.2) per game. He currently ranks 12th in BU history with 1,185 career points, eighth in assists per game (3.69) and sixth in 3-pointers made (141).
• Jerrells was named first-team all-conference by the league's coaches and The Associated Press, only the second Baylor player to earn Big 12 first-team honors (joins Terry Black in 2001). He led the Bears in scoring (14.9 ppg, ninth in Big 12), assists (3.7 apg, sixth in Big 12) and minutes (31.1 mpg) for the third straight season.
• Jerrells was named the Big 12's "Most Versatile" in Lindy's 2008-09 College Basketball Preview.
SUCCESS FROM THE LINE
• Baylor was successful from the foul line in 2007-08, shooting 74.3 percent (528-711) on free throws, which led the Big 12 Conference. That percentage is the fourth-best figure in school history.
• LaceDarius Dunn led the team and the Big 12 at the line with a 83.7 free throw percentage, followed by Aaron Bruce (79.1 percent) and Kevin Rogers (77.1 percent).
THREE ALL-BIG 12 PERFORMERS RETURN
• Baylor returns three All-Big 12 performers from a year ago -- Curtis Jerrells, Henry Dugat and Kevin Rogers. In fact, Jerrells is one of only two first-teamers returning in 2008-09 - the other four first-team picks were drafted in the 2008 NBA Draft.
JERRELLS NAMED TO NABC ALL-DISTRICT 9 FIRST TEAM
• Curtis Jerrells earned a spot on the 2008 All-District 9 first team, selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. Jerrells is the first BU player to be honored with all-district distinction since Lawrence Roberts was named to the first team in 2003.
DREW, JERRELLS EARN USBWA DISTRICT VII HONOR
• Baylor head coach Scott Drew was named the 2008 District VII Coach of the year and junior guard Curtis Jerrells was selected to the 2008 All-District VII team by the United States Basketball Writers Association. Drew led a Baylor team projected to finish ninth in the Big 12 preseason coaches poll to a fourth place tie in the conference and to its first NCAA Tournament appearance in 20 years.
• Jerrells has earned several postseason honors and leads the team in scoring (14.9 ppg) and assists (3.6 apg). He is the first BU player to receive All-District VII status since teammate Aaron Bruce was so honored in 2005.
NO LEAD IS SAFE VS. COMEBACK BEARS
• Baylor notched eight wins last season after trailing by nine or more points. In three additional games, the Bears erased double-digit deficits before being edged at the whistle (two of those in overtime).
MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBORHOOD
• Forward Kevin Rogers, who averaged 12.3 points and a team-high 8.5 rebounds (fifth in Big 12), was named an All-Big 12 selection by both The Associated Press (third team) and the league's coaches (honorable mention) in 2008. He was also selected to the Big 12 All-Underrated Team by the league's media.
• He recorded 12 double-doubles last season, including eight in league games - the fourth-highest total among Big 12 players. Rogers was named to the 2007 Big 12 All-Improved team after a sophomore season in which he doubled his scoring (12.8 from 6.1 ppg) and nearly doubled his rebounding from his freshman season (7.6 from 4.0 rpg).
UDOH, DIAZ TRANSFER TO BAYLOR
• Baylor added two NCAA Division I transfers to its roster for the 2009-10 season with the addition of Ekpe Udoh (Michigan) and Duran Diaz (Grambling State). Both will sit out the 2008-09 season season to satisfy the NCAA's transfer policy. Udoh will retain two seasons of eligiblity, while Diaz will retain three.
• A native of Edmond, Okla., Udoh played two seasons for the Wolverines and averaged 5.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.4 blocks in 67 career games (31 starts). He led the Big Ten with 92 blocks as a sophomore in 2007-08 and was named to the Big Ten All-Defensive Team.
• Udoh's 92 blocks set a new Michigan sophomore blocks record (second-highest total in school history), surpassing the previous record of 91 set by Chris Webber in 1992-93. Udoh's 159 career blocks rank fifth all-time on U-M's all-time blocks list.
• The Wolverines' "sixth-man" as a freshman in 2006-07 before entering the starting lineup nine games into his sophomore season, Udoh played in all 67 games during the 2006-07 and 2007-08 seasons.
• Diaz, a native of Kennedale, Texas, averaged 7.8 points and 2.0 rebounds in 21.6 minutes for Grambling State as a true freshman.
DRISCOLL VOTED ONE OF TOP 10 ASSISTANT COACHES
• Baylor assistant basketball coach Matthew Driscoll has been voted the No. 9 assistant coach nationally in a survey of coaching professionals conducted and published by FoxSports.com.
• FoxSports.com released a ranking of 20 high-major and 10 mid-major coaches from its poll of more than 450 coaches and basketball professionals.
• Of Driscoll, FoxSports.com senior basketball writer Jeff Goodman wrote: "The 43-year-old spent six years under Larry Shyatt -- five at Clemson and one at Wyoming -- before hooking up with Scott Drew. In fact, Driscoll was at Valparaiso with Drew for a matter of weeks before heading to Waco and helping orchestrate one of the most impressive turnarounds in recent memory."
2007 PARADISE JAM CHAMPS
• Baylor earned the 2007 Paradise Jam championship with an impressive three-game run Nov. 16-19 in the U.S. Virgin Islands. The Bears defeated Wichita State (64-55), Notre Dame (68-64) and Winthrop (62-54) to earn the title at the eighth annual tournament. Baylor overcame second-half deficits in both the semis (down 10 to N.D) and the final (down six to Winthrop) to earn the title.
• Curtis Jerrells was named the tournament MVP after leading the Bears with 17.7 points and 7.0 rebounds per game and Aaron Bruce also earned a spot on the all-tournament team. The title marked Baylor's first in-season tournament championship (excluding the Baylor-hosted Dr Pepper Invitational) since winning the 1971 Holiday Classic in Las Vegas (last eight-team tournament title was the 1968 East Carolina Classic).
IMPROVED ROAD FORTUNES
• Baylor finished 9-7 last season away from Waco (6-4 in true road games, 3-3 at neutral sites). The Bears were 4-41 in their previous 45 games outside of Waco before last season (from 2003 to 2007). The Bears finished 6-4 last season on opponents' home courts, reversing a 2-37 record in 39 true road games before last season (from 2002-03 to 2006-07).
• Bears finished 4-4 in 2007-08 on the road in Big 12 games. The win in its first road game Jan. 19 snapped a 25-game losing streak prior to last season (dating to 2004).
RECORD ATTENDANCE NUMBERS
• Baylor's on-court success attracted record numbers of fans to the Ferrell Center and resulted in several new attendance records last season. The Bears set new records for total attendance (116,015), average attendance (7,251) and single-game attendance (10,545 vs. Texas A&M 3-5-08). In fact, Baylor recorded four of the top seven crowds all-time in 2007-08.

• Bear basketball is aired live via the Baylor-ISP Sports Network on flagship station 1660AM ESPN Radio (KRZI) in Waco and worldwide on Sirius Satellite Radio channel 161. All games are broadcast by the "Voice of the Bears" John Morris, a veteran broadcaster in his 14th season, and former BU basketball standout Pat Nunley, in his 27th season as analyst.

• Inside Baylor Sports, the award winning weekly TV show that covers all aspects of Baylor athletics, returns for its 10th season during the 2008-2009 academic year.
