WACO, Texas - A USTA Pro Circuit Waco Tennis Challenger is being played at the Baylor Tennis Center this week with several current Baylor players competing in the main draw. Juniors Denes Lukacs and Dominik Mueller are playing in the singles draw after receiving wild-card entries while the Bears are represented in the doubles draw by teams Attila Bucko and Jordan Rux, former Bear Benedikt Dorsch and Lukacs, Jurica Grubisic and Mueller, and Julian Bley and Marc Bruche. Dorsch, currently ranked No. 175 in the world, returns to the campus where he was three-time All-American and NCAA singles champion.
In first round play on Monday, Lukacs, currently ranked No. 2 in the recently released ITA preseason poll, defeated Roman Borvanov (USA), 6-4, 6-0. Partners Grubisic, a freshman, and Mueller defeated the rookie team of Bley and Bruche in doubles play, 6-2, 2-6, 10-7.
On Tuesday, Mueller is set to play Dorsch, while the doubles team of Bucko and Rux will face Borvanov and Joseph Sirianni (AUS). Play begins at 11 a.m. but matches involving Baylor players won't begin before 6 p.m. Doubles will play first followed by singles.
