IRVING, Texas - Senior Curtis Jerrells was named to the 2008-09 Phillips 66 All-Big 12 Third Team, while LaceDarius Dunn and Kevin Rogers earned honorable mention honors Sunday. The official All-Big 12 awards are selected by the league's head coaches, who are not allowed to vote for their own players.
Jerrells earned his second All-Big 12 honor and Baylor's second third-team selection in the Big 12 era (Lawrence Roberts, 2003). Last season, Jerrells earned Baylor's second first-team selection of the Big 12 era. The Austin native finished the regular season as the team leader in scoring and assists. In Baylor's 66-62 loss to Nebraska Saturday, Jerrells moved into fifth place on Baylor's career scoring list with 1,672 points.
He is the Baylor career leader in both games started (110) and minutes played (3,626), while ranking in the top five in nine other offensive categories. He is on pace to become the first player in school history to lead the team in points and assists for four-straight seasons.
Earlier this season, Jerrells became the second player in school history to record 1,000 points, 400 assists and 100 steals in a career, while also posting the fourth triple-double in program history.
Jerrells currently ranks eighth among scorers in the Big 12 with 16.2 points per game (15.8 ppg in conference games). He ranks fifth in assists per game (4.90), sixth in minutes played (34.77), ninth in steals (1.50), 11th in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.62), 13th in free throw percentage (76.7) and 14th in 3-point field goals made (1.93).
In addition to being named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention, Dunn was one of two players to earn the Big 12 Sixth Man Award (Matt Lawrence, Missouri). It marks the first time in conference history that the honor is shared and it is also the program's first Big 12 Sixth Man Award. Despite coming off the bench in 25 of 30 games this season, Dunn finished second in scoring with 15.1 points per game. He led the Bears with 79 3-point field goals and currently ranks seventh on Baylor's career list with 153 treys.
Dunn currently ranks 11th in the Big 12 in scoring. He also ranks third in 3-point field goals made (2.63) and seventh in free throw percentage (79.8)
Rogers was named All-Big 12 Honorable Mention by the league's coaches for the second-straight season. The senior from Dallas currently ranks 10th all-time at Baylor with 1,242 career points and is one of seven players in program history with 1,000 points and 700 rebounds. Rogers ranks sixth overall in the Big 12 with 7.4 rebounds per game and eighth in conference-only games (7.4).
Dunn and Quincy Acy were also named to the All-Reserve and All-Freshman Teams, respectively, by a group of media who regularly cover the Big 12. Acy finished the regular season sixth on the team in scoring with 6.1 points per game, while leading the team in blocked shots (32) and blocked shots per game (1.07). Acy currently ranks sixth in the Big 12 with 1.07 blocked shots per game.
The ninth-seeded Baylor Bears return to action on Thursday when they face the eighth-seeded Nebraska Cornhuskers in the round of the 2008 Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Championship. Tip-off is set for 11:30 a.m. Wednesday on the Big 12 Network.
