WACO, Texas - The Baylor women's golf team will head to Lubbock, Texas, April 24-26, to compete in the 2009 Big 12 Championships.

The Lady Bears look to avenge its 12th place showing at last season's Big 12 Championships. A good showing in Lubbock could propel Baylor to its ninth NCAA Regional in the last 10 years.

"We've been playing our best golf as of late," said head coach Sylvia Ferdon. "We just need to take it one shot at a time and try to keep the nerves nice and calm. If we can do those things, we'll be in good shape."

This week will mark the second time this season that Baylor has visited the Rawls Course. The Lady Bears finished second earlier in the season at the Jeannie McHaney Invite in which they shot a three-round 913 (302-305-306).

Baylor is coming off back-to-back tournament wins for only the third time in school history and the first time since 2003. At both the Cincinnati Spring Invite and the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic, the Lady Bears rallied in the third and final round to capture the team title. No Baylor women's team in the program's 21-year history has ever won three straight tournaments.

Looking to become the first-ever Lady Bear to be named to the Big 12 All-Tournament Team, Hannah Burke leads the way for Baylor. Burke, a junior from Hertfordshire, England, was recently named Big 12 Golfer of the Month following her efforts for the month of April. Burke has finished no worse than sixth in her last three tournaments.

Burke will be joined by four underclassmen on the lineup card. Sophomores Morgan Chambers and Lene Hafsten-Morch lead the talented underclassmen in stroke average. Hafsten-Morch has a stroke average of 77.22 over 27 rounds of play, while Chambers has averaged 77.79. Freshman Chelsey Cothran and sophomore Jordan Rhodes round out play for Baylor.

The tournament hosts a competitive 12-team field featuring four teams ranked among Golfweek's top 50 including Oklahoma State (4), Texas (39), Texas A&M (41), and Colorado (46).

The Lady Bears, paired with Oklahoma and Kansas for the first round of play, will tee off at 8:50 a.m. on Friday. The 12-team field will then play 18 holes Saturday, followed by the final 18 on Sunday. All the action can be followed live online at GolfStat.com.
