Irving, TX- Baylor's Denes Lukacs has been named the Big 12 Men's Tennis Player of the Week for matches held March 30 - April 5. This is the second time in Lukacs' career that he has received the accolade and the first for a Baylor player this season.
Lukacs, a junior from Eger, Hungary, won two singles matches this week to help Baylor to victories over No. 11 Texas and No. 49 Nebraska. The junior defeated the 14th-ranked Dimitar Kutrovsky of Texas in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 on Thursday and took down David Bendheim of Nebraska in three sets 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 on Saturday. Currently Lukacs is on a 10-match win streak and has not lost since March 1 at No. 3 Ohio State.
Lukacs owns a 26-6 record overall. He is 16-3 in dual match play and is a perfect 3-0 in Big 12 Conference action. In addition, he is 13-8 in doubles on the season. Earlier this year against the University of Texas at Arlington, Lukacs became only the seventh Baylor player to record 100 career singles victories. He now sits at 105 career wins and alone in fourth place on the all-time Baylor career wins list. Lukacs is currently ranked seventh in latest ITA singles' rankings.
Lukacs won the award last season for the week of April 21.
