COLLEGE STATION, Texas - Baylor's Denes Lukacs and Jordan Rux will begin play in the NCAA Men's Tennis Championships on Wednesday, May 20 and Rux and David Galic will begin doubles action on Thursday, May 21. The singles players are part of a 64-player field selected for the competition while 32 doubles teams were chosen to compete. All matches will be played at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.
Lukacs, ranked No. 4, is seeded in the 1-8 range which along with the prestige of receiving a top seeding in the tournament, players who are seeded automatically obtain All-America status. This marks Lukacs' second appearance at the NCAA Tournament and his second time to earn All-American in singles. Rux, ranked No. 45, is making his first appearance in the tournament.
In round of 64 action, Lukacs will take on South Carolina's Diego Cubas who is ranked No. 54 at 12:30 p.m. The winner of the Lukacs/Cubas match will play the winner between 36th-ranked Jay Weinacker of North Carolina State and No. 57 Marek Michalicka of Wisconsin. Rux's first round match, which is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m., will be against 21st-ranked Alex Clayton of Stanford. The winner of that match will face off against Florida's Carlos Cueto, ranked No 23, or third-seeded Bryan Koniecko of Ohio State.
Lukacs owns the team's best singles record this season at 31-8 and is 21-5 in dual match play. The junior from Eger, Hungary, is 19-7 versus ranked opponents this season.
Rux, a sophomore from Kerrville, Texas, is 25-12 on the season including an 11-8 record against ranked opponents. He is 16-9 in dual matches.
The 18th-ranked tandem of Galic and Rux will put their 13-7 season mark on the line when they take on second-seeded Davey Sandgren and John-Patrick Smith of Tennessee.
