LINCOLN, Neb. - Baylor's volleyball was swept (21-25, 19-25, 13-25) by fifth-ranked Nebraska in the Huskers' final home match as a part of the Big 12 Conference on Wednesday in Lincoln, Neb. The match was Nebraska's senior night in front of a sell-out crowd of 4,186 at the NU Coliseum.
The Bears (15-15, 8-11) were able to have a lead in each of the three sets, but the Huskers (26-2, 18-1) proved too much for Baylor as they recorded a hitting percentage of .283 to .160 for BU. Elizabeth Graham led the Bears with nine kills, while Torri Campbell recorded eight.
Defensively, Baylor out-blocked the Huskers, 7.0 to 5.0, getting five total blocks from Campbell and three by Briana Tolbert. Caitlyn Trice had 10 digs for her 30th consecutive match with double figures.
In the first set, the Bears started the match with a kill by Tolbert and a Nebraska service error by Hannah Werth for a 2-1 lead. After the Huskers came back to build an 8-5 lead, Baylor responded with a 5-1 run to reclaim a 10-9 edge. During the run, Tolbert recorded two more kills, while Campbell was in on two block assists. Baylor then got a kill by Graham and a service ace by Brittany Ridenour to tie the score at 15-15, but Nebraska then extended the back-and-forth first set to 19-15. Baylor had one more late run to pull within 20-19 on a kill by Ashlie Christenson before the Huskers closed out the first set 25-21.
Baylor scored the first point of the second set on a kill by Christenson, but didn't hold another lead in the set as Nebraska built a 13-7 lead. Campbell ripped off three consecutive kills to get BU as close as 21-17, but back-to-back kills by Lindsey Licht ended the set 25-19 for the Huskers.
In the third, the Bears came cruising out to a 5-0 lead with kills by Christenson, Campbell and Tolbert. After a short Husker run, Graham put away a kill for an 8-4 lead. Then Nebraska opened up their offense with a 15-2 run to build a 19-10 lead. Back-to-back blocks by Campbell made the score 19-12, but the Huskers weren't giving in and took the set 25-13.
Baylor will be back home for the final match of the regular season on Saturday, Nov. 27 against Texas Tech. The match also marks Baylor's Senior Night, starting at 7 p.m. The Bears will honor four seniors: Ashley Byrd, Ashlie Christenson, Elizabeth Graham and Caitlyn Trice.
