WACO, Texas- Head coach Matt Knoll has announced the addition of Roberto Maytin of Valencia, Venezuela to the sixth-ranked men's tennis team's roster.
The 21-year-old right-hander becomes the only freshman on a roster that features three seniors, two juniors and three sophomores. Maytin, who is 6 feet tall and weighs 195 pounds, got his first action for the Bears in Monday's 7-0 victory over No. 38 TCU when he won his No. 6 singles match 6-4, 7-5 over Christopher Price.
"Roberto is a guy we identified a long time ago as somebody we would love to have in the program and fortunately he is here," head coach Matt Knoll said. "I am so excited about his joining us."
Maytin enjoyed much success in the junior ranks playing in four Davis Cups, while also being ranked No. 410 on the ATP doubles list.
"He is a world class junior and more importantly than that he is a world class guy," Knoll said. "He is going to bring a lot to our team off the court. Just such a solid person, such a great competitor, comes from a great family. He is going to do a wonderful job as a student here and he is exactly the kind of guy we are looking for as we continue to build our program with great recruits."
