HUNTSVILLE, Texas - Baylor (6-1-1) used a goal in each half to propel itself to a 2-0 win over Sam Houston State (2-6) Friday evening at Pritchett Field. The 6-1-1 mark is Baylor's best start since a 6-1 record in 2002.
"It was a difficult pitch to play on," head coach Marci Jobson said. "We were presented with some adversity, but we were able to get through it. It wasn't our best night of soccer, but we were able to get the win and I am happy with that."
The Bears picked up their sixth shutout of the season and have outscored their opponents 23-3 thus far.
Junior goalkeeper Courtney Seelhorst made three saves and posted her fourth solo shutout of the season.
Baylor dominated the shot category, 14-5, including an 8-2 advantage in the second half. Dana Larsen and Lotto Smith led the way with three shots each.
Baylor got on the board in the 29 minute, as Karlee Summey collected her first goal of the season off an assist from Hanna Gilmore for the 1-0 lead.
Despite a 6-3 shooting edge, BU took a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Bears doubled their advantage in the 63rd minute when Dana Larsen buried her second goal of the year off a pass from Lindsey Johnson, her second assist of the season.
The Bears will take their four-game unbeaten streak into Sunday's home match against Prairie View A&M at 1:00 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field.
