FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Freshman Tiffani McReynolds broke another school record and the Baylor sprinters ran fast times on the first day of action at the Razorback Invitational on Friday at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
McReynolds, who tied and then broke the 60-meter school record in consecutive races at the last meet, set the bar even higher at Arkansas. Coming into the weekend with a time of 8.35, McReynolds ran Friday's fastest qualifying time of 8.30 to better her own BU record mark. The mark moves her from 12th in the NCAA this season to eighth, and puts her in the top spot heading into Saturday's final.
In the 200 meters, McReynolds joined Tiffany Townsend in the top six of the 200-meter finals. Townsend, the BU record holder in the event turned in the second-best time ever at Baylor of 23.21, narrowly missing the NCAA automatic qualifying mark by .01 seconds. Her time puts in the top five in the NCAA this season. McReynolds cracked the top-10 marks all-time at Baylor with a sixth-place finish of 23.89.
On the men's side in the 200 meters, Marcus Boyd and Whitney Prevost placed sixth and seventh, respectively, each with a time of 21.11. The times were split down to the one-thousandth where Boyd had a slight advantage to earn sixth.
Another Baylor school record holder, Skylar White had a solid performance as well, finishing second in the women's shot put. White, who set the BU standard at the last meet, earned her runner-up finish with the second-best toss in program history of 53 feet, six inches. She now owns the top eight performances all-time at Baylor, including the top two she has set in this season's two meets.
The Bears qualified two men and two women in each of the 60-meter preliminary races on Friday. For the women, Townsend qualified second with a time of 7.35 and Brittany Carr was 16th at 7.71. On the men's side, Whitney Prevost had a sixth-place qualifying time of 6.75 and Woodrow Randall qualified ninth at 6.78, both season bests.
In multi-event competition, Baylor entered four freshmen, including two women in the pentathlon and two men in the heptathlon. Jessica Shadley paced the women in the pentathlon with a solid score of 3,317 points to place fourth, while teammate Lauren Rover was fifth at 2,894 points. Through the first four of seven events in the men's heptathlon, Henry Vildosola is seventh at 2,670 and Hunter Brook is 10th at 2,511.
Baylor will be back on the track at the Tyson Track Center on Saturday for the final day of competition at the Razorback Invitational. All events begin at 11 a.m., starting with the last three events of the heptathlon, the women's weight throw and the women's 3,000 meters.
