Track Begins Weekend at Stanford

WACO, Texas - In the first of two meets on the weekend, Baylor's track and field team competed in select distance races at the Stanford Invitational on Friday in Palo Alto, Calif.
Senior Leigh Ann Ganzar shattered a personal-best for the second week in a row, this time in the 1,500 meters. Ganzar placed sixth in her section of the event, but shaved 14 seconds off her previous career mark with a time of 4:30.11.
On the men's side, Zac Flowers and Gavyn Nero each competed in separate sections of the 1,500 meters as well. Flowers was fourth in section four with a time of 3:52.73, less than a second off his personal best, while Nero was 10th in his section at 3:52.54.
Junior Kristen Hanselka took on the competition in the women's steeplechase, placing 11 in her section. Hanselka, competing in her first steeplechase of the season, crossed the line in a time of 10:43.51.
In the final event of the day at Stanford, Katie Shaw and Samantha Patty competed in the second section of the 10,000 meters. Shaw turned in a career-best performance by nearly 40 seconds with her time of 35:06.41 to place 16th in the section. Patty was 36th in the section with a time of 36:29.05
In Baylor's second meet of the weekend, the Arizona State Invitational, junior pole vaulter Joe Farley competed in the lone event for the Bears on Friday. Farley cleared a season-best 16-2.75 to place fifth in the men's pole vault.
The ASU Invite will continue with the bulk of the events on Saturday at Sun Devil Stadium on the campus of Arizona State University in Tempe, Ariz. Field events begin at 10 a.m. with the women's discus, while running events start at 5 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles.
