COLLEGE STATION, Texas- Tied 1-1, Texas A&M's (5-4, 1-0) Chelsea Jones scored with 1:57 to go in the game to defeat Baylor (6-2-1, 0-1) at Ellis Field Friday night before a crowd of 3,251 in College Station.
Larissa Campos notched her first goal of the season, making it the first goal the Bears have scored on the Aggies since Oct. 11, 2002.
"I am proud of my team, just disappointed in the result," head coach Marci Jobson said. "We had our chances in the game but couldn't convert. We played so hard and hopefully we will use this as a springboard to the rest of our season."
Courtney Seelhorst came up with five saves in the match, while Taylor Heatherly had two of the Bears' five shots on goal.
Seelhorst came up big one-handed save in the 27th minute after a shot from Kelley Monogue was thwarted over the crossbar.
The Aggies got on the board in the 38th minute when a ball was played into the box by Beth West, and after a high bounce, was lofted over Seelhorst by the head of Annie Kunz and into the net for a 1-0 lead.
Down 1-0 at half, Baylor turned up the attack in the second half and earned a foul from 35 yards outside the goal to set up a free kick in the 66th minute. Campos drilled a high, hard ball that lofted over Renee McDermott to tie the game at 1-1.
The Bears had a chance for the lead in the 83rd minute, as Natalie Huggins broke away for a one-on-one with the keeper that missed high, keeping the game tied.
With 1:57 to go in the game, Merritt Mathis dribbled by a pair of defenders and found Chelsea Jones' head for the go-ahead goal, 2-1.
