MANHATTAN, Kan. - Baylor (16-9, 3-7) tried to dig out of a 2-0 deficit, but fell 3-1 (16-25, 20-25, 25-23, 17-25) at No. 16 Kansas State (20-3, 7-3) Saturday evening at Ahearn Fieldhouse in Manhattan, Kan.

"Tonight wasn't our night," head coach Jim Barnes said. "Kansas State played very well and we had far too many breakdowns to win."

The Bears, who used 13 players in the match, held the Wildcats to just a .196 hitting percentage but managed only a .106 average of their own. Zoe Adom (12) led the team in kills for the second-straight match, while Torri Campbell added nine. BU outblocked K-State 10-9.5, as Campbell guided the Bears with five. Mackenzie Mayo subbed in as libero in the third and finished with 23 digs.

The Wildcats opened with a 25-16 win in the first set, as Baylor managed just a .024 hitting percentage in the opener. BU trailed 4-0 off the bat and was never able to closer than one.

Trailing by five (17-12) in the second, Baylor scored four in a row to pull within one, but the Wildcats answered with three consecutive points for the cushion and 25-20 win. BU swung its best set, .212, but Kansas State did as well, hitting .359.

Kansas State seemed to continued its momentum out of the break, opening with a 5-0 run. Trailing 15-9, Baylor made a 7-0 run for a 16-15 lead off the serve of Kayci Evans and with new setter Amy Rosenbaum. The Bears found themselves again down 23-20, but a 5-0 run closed out the set and the comeback for a 25-23 win.

Baylor was unable to keep its run going in the fourth set, falling 25-17 with an .073 hitting mark.

Baylor will have a week off before resuming Big 12 play at home against No. 17 Kansas on Saturday at 7 pm in the Ferrell Center.
