LOS ANGELES - UCLA overcame a two-run deficit with four runs in the eighth inning on its way to an 8-6 win over Baylor in Sunday afternoon's series finale at Jackie Robinson Stadium.

With the loss, No. 25 Baylor (6-2) had its streak of four consecutive weekend series wins snapped.

"It's a game of inches on both sides. They got a triple to fall early in the game with two strikes, down the right-field line and just out of reach of Adam (Toth), and we line into a double play on a hit-and-run," head coach Steve Smith said. "Our guys played hard, and we actually played well. I like the way we're playing."

The Bears never trailed until No. 22 UCLA's four-run eighth inning. Baylor got on the board in the first when Max Muncy snapped the team's 13-game drought without a home run with a two-run shot to right-center field.

UCLA tied the game with two runs in the second, but the Bears retook the lead with a pair of homers in the third. Muncy led off the inning with his second homer of the game - this time off the roof of UCLA's hitting facility beyond the right-field wall - and two batters later Logan Vick knocked his first homer of the year to give the Bears a 4-2 lead.

The Bruins again tied the game in the fourth when Pat Valaika dropped a two-out, two-run triple just inside the right-field line and just beyond the reach of a diving Adam Toth.

Baylor went back in front in its next at-bat when Muncy drew a leadoff walk and came around to score on Cal Towey's two-out RBI triple. Bears' starting pitcher Brad Kuntz worked a scoreless fifth inning before turning the ball over to Dillon Newman to start the sixth.

Kuntz left in line for the win after allowing four runs on six hits in 5.0 innings, but he didn't factor in the decision. Newman retired the first seven batters he faced before giving up three straight singles in the eighth. Trevor Brown's RBI single cut Baylor's lead to 6-5, and after Newman struck out Kevin Kramer for the second out of the inning, Cody Regis hit a grounder up the middle that went off the glove of a diving Lawton Langford for a two-run double.

Joey Hainsfurther came on in relief and gave up a RBI double to Valaika before getting out of the inning. Newman (0-1) took the loss after allowing four runs on four hits in 2.2 innings.

Langford went 3-for-4 with a walk and a run scored, Muncy finished 2-for-4 with two home runs, a walk, three runs and three RBI, and Vick went 2-for-5 with a home run.

UCLA starting pitcher Zack Weiss didn't factor in the decision after allowing five runs on seven hits in 5.0 innings. Reliever Grant Watson (1-0) picked up the win by recording the final two outs in the eighth inning after Baylor extended its lead to 6-4 on a Michael Howard pinch-hit RBI single.

The Bears put two on with two out in the ninth after Towey and Josh Turley drew walks, but closer Scott Griggs struck out Langford to end the game and record his second save of the season.

Baylor returns to action at 5:05 p.m. Tuesday when it hosts Sam Houston State at Baylor Ballpark. All tickets for the game are $3, including available reserved seats.
