WACO, Texas - Baylor men's basketball sophomore Perry Jones III was one of 30 players named to the 2011-12 Naismith Trophy Midseason List, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Wednesday.
Jones III is one of five Big 12 players on the midseason list, joining Missouri teammates Marcus Denmon and Phil Pressey, Kansas' Thomas Robinson and Iowa State's Royce White.
The midseason 30 list was compiled by the Atlanta Tipoff Club's Board of Selectors, which based its criteria on player performances from the 2011-12 college basketball season. The Naismith Trophy, presented by AT&T, will be awarded at the 2012 NCAA Men's Final Four in New Orleans.
Jones III, the Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year, is also on the John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25 and Oscar Robertson Trophy Midseason Watch List. PJ3 is averaging a team-best 13.2 points and 7.3 rebounds in 25 games and has been named Big 12 Player of the Week twice this season.
Since 2005, presenting sponsor AT&T has set the standard in allowing fans to participate in determining the trophy winner. Through the power and ease of text messaging, fan voting will account for 25 percent of all of the final results - more than any other national college basketball award.
Other notable Naismith Men's College Player of the Year winners include Bill Walton, Larry Bird, Michael Jordan, Patrick Ewing and last year's winner, Jimmer Fredette. The Naismith Trophy is the most prestigious national award presented annually to college basketball's player of the year. For more information, visit www.naismithawards.com.
