2012 NCAA Championship Results (Second Round)

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Within striking distance of cracking the top 10, No. 17 Baylor dropped to 19th Wednesday after the second round of the 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship at the Vanderbilt Legends Golf Course. A day after shooting a first-round 11-over 299, the Lady Bears posted a second-round 304 to fall to 27-over 603 through 36 holes.

First-round leader Alabama widened its lead to a commanding 11-stroke margin (5-under 571) over the three teams tied for second at 6-over 582 - UCLA, North Carolina and Virginia. Arizona State and South Carolina are tied for fifth at 7-over 583. The Lady Bears are 13 strokes behind host and 10th-place Vanderbilt (14-over 590).

Alabama's Brooke Pancake overtook Virginia's Portland Rosen for the individual lead through 36 holes. Pancake (6-under 183) is up two strokes on second-place Giulia Molinaro of Arizona State (4-under 140). Only 12 of the field's 126 golfers are under-par after two rounds.

"There aren't a lot of excuses for why we didn't play well Wednesday," first-year head coach Jay Goble said. "The course was right in front of us.

"We had another good practice session after today's round," Goble said. "I know we didn't come here to finish 19th. We're looking to move forward from this. I expect the ladies to regroup and work very hard Thursday."

Senior Jaclyn Jansen, Baylor's best performer on Tuesday, is tied for 53rd overall at 5-over 149 after shooting a second-round 78. Freshman Hayley Davis and senior Valerie Sternebeck are tied for 75th at 8-over 153. Sternebeck, who was tied for 104th after 18 holes, carded a team-low 73 in the second round.

Freshman Stani Schiavone and senior Chelsey Cothran are both tied for 89th at 10-over 154. Cothran posted the team's second-lowest score during Wednesday's second round with a 75.

The 2012 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship continues Thursday with the third round. Baylor, paired with Arkansas and Michigan State, will tee off No. 1 beginning at 7:30 a.m. CDT. Live scoring will be available at www.golfstat.com.
