Oct. 17, 2014 WACO, Texas - The Baylor men's tennis team will have four players taking part in the USTA/ITA Regional Championships Saturday through Tuesday at Texas A&M's Mitchell Tennis Center in College Station, Texas.

"We have been beat up this season with a lot of guys dealing with injury," head coach Matt Knoll said. "We need to play matches and it will be good to see how our guys do in a tournament setting."

The singles and doubles champions from each of the 12 regions around the country will go on to play in the USTA/ITA Indoor Intercollegiate Championships from Nov. 6-9 in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.

The Bears will have four players in the 128-man singles draw, as well as two pairs in the 64-team doubles draw. The 26th-ranked Diego Galeano, No. 112 Tony Lupieri, Felipe Rios and Vince Schneider will all take part in singles action, while Galeano and Schneider are teamed together for doubles and Lupieri and Rios are paired together.

Galeano, seeded No. 4 in singles, will have a first-round bye, before facing the winner of Michael Riechmann (Texas) and Jeandre Hoogenboezem (Lamar) at noon on Saturday. Galeano went 0-2 earlier this month at the ITA All-American in his only event of the fall.

Lupieri, seeded No. 11, takes on Alejandro Sanoja of UTPA at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Lupieri is 3-1 on the season, after a semifinal run at the Rice Fall Invitational.

Rios, seeded No. 15, will take on the winner of Mikko Rajamaki (Lamar) and Daniel Trey (TCU) at 1 p.m. Saturday. Rios is already 4-1 on the fall season.

Schneider, playing in his first fall competition, faces the winner of Trevor Johnson (TCU) and Jolan Cailleau (Texas Tech) at noon on Saturday.

Both of Baylor's doubles team's will be playing together competitively for the first time.

"I think our doubles teams will play really well," Knoll said. "These are guys that have been in the program, so they know what they are doing out there. They all have a good skill set for doubles and I think that both groups will be very competitive."

Galeano and Schneider are slated to tangle with Connor Curry and Francisco Zambon of Texas Tech at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Lupieri and Rios will also play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday versus Carlos Arbiza and Daniel Echeverry of UT-Arlington.

BaylorBears.com will have a full recap following each day of competition.
