Cohen, a former South Carolina 4-A Player of the year, is in Silicon Valley, Ca., to compete against 40 other individuals in the National Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge. Cohen, a native of Charleston, S.C., is representing her home state after winning a regional competition last spring. The winner of Thursday's (Oct. 9) national competition will receive $25, 000 in direct funding and business support.
As part of a high school entrepreneurship class, Cohen invented The Catching Prodigy, an elastic basketball-passing device that helps players handle faster-speed passes. Hooked to the hands and tethered to a ball, the invention directs a basketball back to the player, who can then throw it repeatedly to build strength and hand-eye coordination.
The winner of Thursday's (Oct. 9) competition will receive $25, 000 in direct funding and business support.
"This whole experience has been amazing. I have learned so much about the business world and have gained valuable experience throughout the process," said Cohen. Cohen's presentation from the South Carolina competition can be viewed at: The Catching Prodigy
