NAPA, Calif. - In the first day of action at the Napa Valley 50k Challenger, junior Julian Lenz took down Noah Rubin of the United States, 6-4, 6-2, on Saturday at the Napa Country Club.
Lenz, ranked No. 1 in singles in the ITA, is competing at the Napa Valley 50k Challenger, a USTA Men's Professional Pro Circuit Challenger Series Event.
In his first match of qualifying singles, Lenz bested Rubin, who won the boys' singles title at Wimbledon this summer and then took the title at the USTA Boys 18s National Championships. Rubin is currently ranked No. 587 on the ATP Tour.
Meanwhile in Houston at the Rice Fall Invitational, Tony Lupieri won three singles matches, while Felipe Rios went 1-1 on the day.
After a bye in the first round, Lupieri went on to beat Daniel Echeverry of UT Arlington, 6-4, 6-2 in the round of 32. He then downed Nebraska's Andrew Dzulnsky, 6-2, 6-3. To reach the semifinals, Lupieri took out Rice's Adam Gustafsson, 6-3, 6-1.
Rios took care of SMU's Tony Russell, 6-3, 6-2 in the round of 32 and then retired due to injury vs. Jason Jaruvang of Arizona in the round of 16.
In doubles, Lupieri and Rios were forced to retire from their match vs. Julia Olaya and Eric Fitz-Randolph in the round of 32.

Lenz will face Daniel Garza of Mexico on Sunday in California. Lupieri will take on Tomas Stillman of USTA at 11 a.m. CT on Sunday in the semifinal round.
