BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES
Baylor Head Coach Kim Mulkey
On the similarities between both exhibition games:
"The score was the same, and I thought free throw shooting was about the same, not very good from the foul line. I didn't think we shot the three ball very well, but we won, and everybody got to play, and the games that don't count are over. From here on out every one counts. We'll start back tomorrow and do our scouting report on UTA and get ready for Friday."
On using exhibition games to work on things:
"Yes. You have to go into these games and not look at the score. You've got to work on you. We've got to work on ourselves. I'm looking at combinations, situations. In a timeout, I don't let them look at the score. I tell them we're down 10 and don't look at the score, don't look at the time, go out and play. We looked at a zone tonight. We looked to press, and I looked at different combinations again."
On how difficult it will be to get down to an eight or nine player rotation:
"I hope it is. If it's hard it means we're pretty good. We got a lot of depth. I think a lot of that depends on freshmen being ready in the games that are tougher. I think a lot of that will depend on foul trouble, who we play and what kind of defense we see. It's our job as coaches to put them in positions to look good. It's very obvious that the three point guards could all play together. I don't care who starts. We could flip a coin. They're going to play the same amount of minutes, because we're going to move the ball up the floor. I like that our post players are rebounding the ball and their quick outlet passes make us go. A lot of times post players will turn, get in trouble, especially when they're coming back at you to try to double the ball, but we're keeping it high. We're turning. We're going, so you better get back in transition defensively because we're coming right at you."
Freshman Kalani Brown
On what she took away from the exhibition games:
"Being a freshman I have a little bit of jitters, but once you start playing it goes away. These two games we just worked on stuff that needs working on. It's a learning experience."
On her level of comfort with post to post passing:
"I'm very comfortable. Me and Beatrice just got to learn to work together. It was working for us in the game, so why go away from it? So we just kept going to it."
Sophomore Kristy Wallace
On playing with the new players on the team:
"It's extremely fun, especially when we get our running game going. We just ate that up. We love to run. We love to push the ball and I think that's important for us to retain that throughout the season. Having these new freshmen in is very important. They are key players in our team and I think they work well. They definitely gelled in the first two games. We have a lot to work on as a team, but it's just fun to get out there on the court and I'm looking forward to getting out there in the good games."
On playing with Alexis Jones and Niya Johnson at the same time:
"It's very fun. Coach Mulkey is working with combinations and looking at what works. It's very fun when I am in with those two knowing that either of us can bring down the ball. We don't have that one player that has to get the ball to set up the play, we can just go from there."
