BAYLOR POSTGAME QUOTES

Baylor Head Coach Scott Drew

Opening Statement

"Well, I think I've been a part of one of the best moments in college basketball in the NCAA Tournament with my brother hitting that shot and I think I've been part of one of the worst that I'll remember, R.J. hitting that shot. The thing I've been disappointed with is all year long we've executed down the stretch. We've been a tough team and I feel bad the way that the last five minutes went from the standpoint, 21 turnovers for us all game. That's not who we are, and yet I know that's what will be dwelt upon and talked about is how we didn't finish the game, and that's on me as a coach."

On the pressure from Georgia State:

"I think that's March Madness from the standpoint it's a big moment, and we didn't embrace it. We didn't handle -- that 21, I can't remember having 21 turnovers. The last two times we played West Virginia, I think we were ten or under, around that area. Momentum is a big thing, and once you make one turnover, now all of a sudden, things get sped up, and I think that's what happened to us. Their defense is good, and they've got to get a lot of the credit for causing us to turn it over because Kenny, Lester, and Royce have been very good all year long at handling pressure."

On the end of the game:

"Yeah, that's my fault. You've got a 12-point lead with three to go, so even though we weren't scoring, we were taking time off the clock. We had some good looks when we went late clock with one of our sets and then twice we didn't get a good look. In hindsight definitely would have preferred to start the clock earlier on those two plays. But I think the biggest thing would have been if you take out the turnovers in the last three minutes, I mean, that would be the difference. Even when we're coming down on the fast break, if you finish that, you're good. You get the rebound. If you hold it, you're good. If you make your two free throws, you're good. I mean, there's a plethora of things that went wrong in the last three minutes. It wasn't one play. I mean, Kenny is the all time best free throw shooter in our history, no one you trust more on the line. I know that was the big thing in the locker room, just making sure they know that no player, no one play, led to this loss. I mean, we had 21 turnovers. We had a lot of other opportunities."

On R.J. Hunter:

"Well, he wasn't shooting from 30 feet earlier in the game. I mean, those two deep threes he made -- I thought the first one, if we could have kept a guard up high, there was no reason to not be up there with him. And that got him going, I think, when he -- at the 1:34 mark when he hit that three. If we could have taken that one out, then I don't know if -- down the stretch, he showed his versatility in different ways he could score, but I thought that was the three that got him going."

On Georgia State's full-court press:

"I think that's just about the tournament. It's a bigger moment, more pressure. I mean, unfortunately, we made mistakes that we haven't made during the year, and it was probably the last thing I was worried about coming into the game was their press from the standpoint we've been so good against it."

Senior Forward Royce O'Neale

On the game-winning shot:

"We knew he was going to shoot it, he just made a good shot."

Senior Guard Kenny Chery

On the game-winning shot:

"He just made a contested three. There was nothing we could do about it. We did our job, and he just made it."

On if the team was too tentative towards the end:

"We probably did, but they executed."

GEORGIA STATE POSTGAME QUOTES

Georgia State Head Coach Ron Hunter

Opening Statement:

"I'm going to start off by saying this: First of all, it was a great game. But I'm not going to be coach, I'm going to be dad right now. Proud as hell of this guy. This is my son. Proud of him, so I wanted to say that. I haven't been able to do that for three years so I wanted to say I'm proud of him. Now to the game. These kids are so resilient, really resilient. It's been like this all year. We kind of laugh because nothing has been given to us. It's been hard everything we've done this year. We played without 20 points in our lineup of course with Ryan Harrow, and this is like the tenth time we've played without Ryan and we've won all of them. This group is just unbelievable. We never gave up. I think we got down five and were in a time-out and just can you it was kind of unsettled, and we just talked out hang in there, believe. I said yesterday if you got to the five-minute mark and we were within a couple possessions, we would win the game. We would win the game. And so the kids believed, and my offspring here hit an unbelievable shot. I thought the way he finished the game was terrific."

On what he told his teem with 2 minutes to go:

"We talked about keep believing. Don't worry about the score. Sometimes you get so consumed by the score, and I felt we had a chance because we were turning them over in the press. I said, keep pressing, press pressing, don't foul. I thought they did a great job of that and really listened. And what I thought was more important is earlier in the year when we got in those situations, then we would try to shoot threes to come back. We were driving the ball, using our timeouts, and getting to the free-throw line. We've been in that situation before, and again, it worked perfectly, and it had to for us to get the win. But these guys believed in what we were doing."

On how he prepared for Baylor:

"Well, it wasn't about them. I had to convince my guys that we could beat them. And the only way I could convince them is, I said we had to throw the first punch and the last punch, and the only way to do it was by pressing. I wanted Baylor to know we weren't afraid to play them. We weren't going to sit back in our normal match-up, that we were going to go out and throw punches against them, and we do that by pressing. In the last month of the season, our press has been unbelievable."

On what he wants to tell his fans:

"Yeah, first of all, I have a message to the people at Georgia State. I am so happy for our alumni, faculty, students and staff. They really deserve it. We're right in downtown Atlanta. We are in the heart of Atlanta being downtown, so I'm so excited for Georgia State and what we're doing in that regard. But also we represent the city of Atlanta, and we're the only team in Atlanta playing in the NCAA Tournament. I saw Kasim's texts and those things and I appreciate that. But what we need is we need some people to drive down here, man. Come down on Saturday, drive down. You have nothing else to do. If you want a bus, I'll pay for a bus. I'll ask my president to pay for a bus -- I'm sorry. But come on down. We need that. But I love the support and what the arena gave us today.

Junior Guard R.J. Hunter

On the team's run towards the end:

"I was just trying to make a play, man. At that point I was just trying to do anything I possibly could. I think that first three got me going. As a shooter you've got to see -- I mean, all you've got to do is see one go in, so once I saw that, I got a little bit of confidence and that's the confidence I needed?" On how it feels to make a comebacl: "Well, I think with 2:54 left, I said that. I said at this time last year, we gave up this 10-point lead, so anything can happen. And right after that, we went on that run. Just going through that and going through all types of basketball situations, you see everything, so I don't think we were rattled, and we just made plays when we had to."

Junior Guard Kevin Ware

On what he was telling his team in the huddle

"Just don't give up. That's what Coach Hunter kept telling us, so that's what I had to put in my head. I saw Ryann crying like a little punk over there, and I really didn't want this to be his last game. We've got some seniors that fought hard all year, and we just wanted to fight and win this game. We're just happy to be going to the Elite 32."
