WACO, Texas - The second-ranked Baylor men's tennis team returned to its winning ways with a 4-0 shutout victory over No. 25 Oklahoma State Sunday.
The match began at the Hurd Tennis Center, but was forced indoors to the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center just after the completion of all first sets in singles. The win raised BU's record to 18-4 overall, 2-1 in Big 12 action and 11-2 at home, while Oklahoma State fell to 16-7 and 0-4 in Big 12 play.
Baylor improved to 20-1 in doubles points on the year, but it may have been BU's longest battle for the opening point of the season.
OSU struck first as the 51st-ranked Tony Lupieri and Mate Zsiga were upset by Nicolai Ferrigno and Lucas Gerch, 6-2, at the No. 2 spot.
At that point, Baylor was leading the match on court three between Vince Schneider and Felipe Rios and OSU's Lukas Finzelberg and Jurence Mendoza, 6-5. The Cowboys pushed the match into a tiebreaker, but the Bears easily won that 7-2 to take the match 7-6(2) and tie doubles at one match each.
That left the doubles point to be decided on court one where the 54th-ranked duo of Diego Galeano and Julian Lenz were trailing Jakob Sude and Arjun Kadhe, 6-5. However, Lenz held serve at love and forced that match into a tiebreaker. The Bears rolled to a 7-4 in that and took the match and the doubles point, 7-6(4).
Between doubles and singles action, Baylor's four seniors Diego Galeano, Robbie Korth, Tony Lupieri and Mate Zsiga were recognized on the court.
In singles play, the Bears won five of six first sets and had just taken a 2-0 lead in the contest with Rios' 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Mendoza at the bottom of the lineup when the match was stopped for a second time due to rain.
The match was halted for three minutes as a light rain fell at the Hurd Tennis Center earlier in singles play, but just over 30 minutes later the rain rolled in again to force the action indoors.
The match was paused for 40 minutes, before play resume at the Hawkins Indoor Tennis Center.
Once inside, the Bears held their early momentum.
First, the 61st-ranked Max Tchoutakian claimed a 7-5, 6-1 victory against No. 118 Kadhe at the No. 3 spot to give the Bears a 3-0 lead.
Then on his Senior Day, Galeano came through in a big way as he clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-4 triumph over Finzelberg on court four.
Matches on courts one, two and five were abandoned.

TOP QUOTE #1
"Well we started slow. We didn't come out the way that we would like to come out in the doubles. We are obviously a little lucky to win two tie-breakers in matches that we easily could have lost. It's a credit to the guys - when the chips were down they found a way to win and that's a great sign of a great competitor." - head coach Matt Knoll on the doubles
TOP QUOTE #2
"We were able to scratch out some tough games today. It was a good finish for us. We kind of got our minds right and started to roll." - Knoll on the win
TOP QUOTE #3
"We've got to figure out how to be at our best when our best is needed. It's needed when you are playing big matches. It's a process for us. I'm happy to get through it. We're going to have to be a heck of a lot better when we go down to Austin on Wednesday." - Knoll on what his team needs to do to improve
TOP QUOTE #4
"Well you need guys doing that. Anytime you get a quick point, it makes a heck of a difference. You kind of back your opponent into a corner. Once we kind of got rolling, we started backing them into a corner. There was a point there when they won the second set on two and a lot of the first sets were close and this thing could have gone either way. Then we won all those other close sets and we just started to roll." - Knoll on Rios' quick singles win
