THE RUNDOWN
WACO, Texas â '¬" Baylor soccer dropped a 2-1 decision to Michigan State Monday night at Betty Lou Mays Field. The Spartans (2-0) used a goal in each half to topple the Bears (0-2).
MSU didn't have many shots â '¬" just four â '¬" but the Spartans made the most of them as they scored in the 36th and 79th minutes. Meanwhile, Baylor had 11 shots and didn't score until the 85th minute.
In the 36th minute, Mary-Kate Fiebernitz of MSU found the back of the net from the right side of the box and shot to the opposite corner from about 15 yards out. In the 79th minute, Kirsten Evans made it a 2-0 Spartans lead as she fired from nearly the same spot and got the ball to go through BU keeper Rebecca Gartner's hands on a diving save attempt.
Baylor rallied offensively for most of the second half â '¬" won the shot battle 7-1 and corner kicks 4-2 â '¬" but could not get an equalizer as the only goal came on a corner kick in the 85th minute. Bri Campos took the corner and found McKenna Martin in the box for a header. Unfortunately, it was the Bears' last really good scoring chance as time ran out on a comeback attempt.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"Obviously, you get five shots on goal, four saves by the keeper. Their keeper played an outstanding game keeping the ball out of the back of the net. So we had quality opportunities and we just couldn't put them away. They had two opportunities, and put two away. That is the difference in the game. But I said it after the last game, we have a very good team, we have a really good team and I am really impressed with a lot of the things we did tonight. There are some little details we have to fine tune and get better at, but this a really good team and there are some special things coming." â '¬" Head Coach Paul Jobson
